Comic book with stories written and drawn by David Robertson and includes contributions
from  by Eileen Budd, Marc Casilli, Zu Dominiak, Damon Herd, Olivia Hicks, Rebecca Horner, Paddy Johnston, Tim Kelly, Neil Paterson, Ludi Price, and Pam Wye.

There can be a problem when you get a book like this.  Firstly, it is an anthology and I have found that in the past highlighting the work of specific contributors has led to complaints.  You know, like "I contributed a piece to that book so what was wrong with it?"  I normally point out that a reviewer has to try to highlight the best of any anthology whether professional or small press.  Pressed further and depending on my mood my response could be "Well, firstly, you cannot draw.  Would you like a further critique?"

Look at the number of contributions in this book:

01. NANDO.
02. INK DRIVE. 03. PATRIOTISM. 04. REVENGE ON THE ORBITING SPACE POD. 05. ENDLESS LOVE. 06. NEWS FOR THE DEAF. 07. MISSILE ATTACK CONCORDE. 08. RODOLPHE TOPFFER’S REVERIE. 09. I LIVE WITH A KILLER. 10. IN CONCERT. 11. HOOVERING. 12. PEZZ. 13. TH:12:43. 14. I LIVE WITH A KILLER 2. 15. LADY MASQUE. 16. THE MAKING OF SPACE FILM EPISODE 7. 17. META AF (art: Zu Dominiak). 18. HORRIBLE PUPIL (art: Neil Paterson). 19. VISUAL MUSIC (art: Rebecca Horner). 20. MILDEW (art: Paddy Johnston). 21. TURBO-SLUSH (art: Tim Kelly). 22. DEADLY DEODORANT (art: Eileen Budd). 23. ASS/U/ME (art: Olivia Hicks). 24. GRAFFITI WALL (art: Pam Wye). 25. TEENAGED TARGETTED TERRORIST TARANTULAS (art: Damon Herd). 26. I DON’T SEE DIFFERENCE (art: Marc Casilli). 27. THE FUTURE (art: Ludi Price). 28. FUMETTI. 29. UNEXPLODED GRENADE. 30. HOMELESS. 31. I LIVE WITH A KILLER 3. 32. ORCHESTRAS. 33. LIVE EVERY DAY LIKE IT’S YOUR LAST. 34. FB -- OUT! 35. SMALL WORLD. 36. MOUSE. 37. SHOPPING FOR TUNA. 38. GEORGE VS. HERBERT. 38. HOURLY COMICS DAY 2017. 39. ROBOT // MONSTER. 40. INTERSECTIONALITY.

Not all credited though there is something about contributions in 2 or 3 point font size and that is no good for a reviewer or someone glancing through it.  Here is what should be done:

26. I DON'T SEE DIFFERENCE  script:----   art: Marc Casilli

Where David Robertson writes the scripts then it should read "D. Robertson" or "Robertson" because tucking that away in tiny text is very amateur. My new spectacles show the tint text reads "stories 1-16 and 28-40" are by Robertson.  No. Credit next to the story, please. I just spend an hour going through the art pages trying to see if there was any script or art credits!  It highlights a very big problem for a reader, too.  If he/she is reading a strip and likes it the automatic thing to do is flip back to page 1 of that strip to see who drew or wrote it.  Having to flip back to page one of the book itself and squint at tiny text is not on. Credits for writer and artist ON the strip.

It is a niggle and I have taken larger publishers to task on this.

But "Uncle Terry is in a mood" is not what you want to read, right?

Nando is a bit of a bleak strip to start on: plane crash on a mountain, cannibalism...one man left. Ink Drive still has me wondering what the hell the ending was about as it seemed messy. I read it at 01:00 hrs and at 11:45 hrs but same impression. Not sure if I missed something.  Deadly Deoderant drawn by Eileen Budd was a nice colour strip and Pam Wye's Graffiti Wall was a nice style. Intersectionality  by Robertson had some nice work. Teenage Targetted Terrorist Tarantulas also had some promising art by Damon Herd. Olivia Hicks, Neil Patterson and Rebecca Horner are also notable contributors.

Is the book worth buying?  That depends on whether you are only interested in super heroes because if so -no. You only buy full colour comics -no.  If you want to buy and read small press books and see what new creators are up to then -yes.  And for the contributors I've noted it is worthwhile -Budd, Wye, Hicks, etc. I would like to see more of their work.

There are preview pages on the Fred Egg Comics page so check it out.

Comics should not just be confined to the slick, full colour companies or even Independents.  If someone wants to draw or put together for fun or as a hobby then why not?  There is a degree of snobbery from all quarters but the point is creativity and having fun.

Blutengel - The Oxidising Angel

Cinebook the 9th Art: Spirou 13 - Z is for Zorglub

Author: Franquin, Jidéhem & Greg
Age: 8 years and up
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 64 colour pages
Publication: September 2017
ISBN: 9781849183628
Price: £8.99 inc. VAT

A hairdryer sent by an unknown party temporarily turns Fantasio into a docile automaton. Coming to his senses in a moving, but driver-less, car, he hears the voice of his abductor, who introduces himself as Zorglub. When an accident allows Fantasio to escape, the mysterious kidnapper tries again with Spirou.

In fact, the abductions’ only purpose is to send the Count of Champignac a message – he and Zorglub are old acquaintances. But what is the enigmatic genius planning?

Here we go! Here we go! Here we go! If you do not know what to expect by now then I think we ought to all give up and go and eat a whole Christmas pudding covered in triple thick cream and follow it with a trifle.  It's called "diabetics Christmas suicide" -and I can say that so there!

Lots of fun and great artwork in this volume and if it wasn't then Cinebook would not be publishing it, so there! Buy and enjoy.

Gomer Goof 2 - It's a Van Goof

Authors: Franquin
Age: 8 years and up
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Paperback
Publication: October 2017
ISBN: 9781849183659
Price: £6.99 inc. VAT

To work in the same building as a walking disaster like Gomer is no picnic. Between his ‘fun’ chemistry experiments and his attempts at amateur rocketry, no one is spared – co-workers, secretaries, bosses, neighbours... We also discover that he’s just as dangerous outside of work: day at the beach or in the country, weekend between friends or romantic outing – there’s nowhere safe from the undisputed master of the goof!

If there is one thing I have started to notice, it has been happening for a long time now right back to when Cinebook began publishing in English, there are a lot of artists copying the "European style"!  Even the way that pages are laid out.  Pity the UK has no home grown publishers to take advantage of this.

You want silliness and slap-stick then this is another for you.  I like the little Gomer text pieces included in this volume. And not one offensive joke in sight!

Just fun and laughs.

Cinebook The 9th Art: Trent 1 - The Dead Man

Authors: Leo & Rodolphe
Age: 12 years and up
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Paperback
Publication: September 2017
ISBN: 9781849183611Price: £6.99 inc. VAT

Sergeant Philip Trent is a ‘Mountie’, a member of the Canadian Northwest Mounted Police. At the end of the 19th century, it’s up to him and his fellow officers to criss-cross the vast open spaces of Canada to maintain law and order. Sent after a small-time killer, he finds himself saving the beautiful Agnes from a pack of hungry wolves. The young woman has come from the city to find her missing half-brother. Against his better judgement, Trent agrees to help her…

With the two names attached to this book you might be expecting more science fiction. Nope.  What you get is Cinebook's latest rough 'n' tough action man -a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP): Trent.

WHY did it take the publishers this long? Brits have a thing about Mounties going back many decades from Boomerang Burke (I ain't kidding), to Dandy McQueen, Benton Fraser in Due South and oh so many more.  I once wrote a very long article about Mounties in British comics!

What can I write about this new book?  The story is good and has a twist and the character of Trent and his dog..."Dog"...is well realised.  It was fun.  But deadly serious.  And the art...how can the art not be good? the environment, the characters, clothing -everything is just what you would want if you were a serious comic reader.

Right now I am looking forward to Trent 2!

The Marsupilami 1 - The Marsupilami’s Tail

Author: Franquin, Greg & Batem
Age: 8 years and up
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Paperback
Publication: September 2017
ISBN: 9781849183635Price: £6.99 inc. VAT

Deep inside the Palombian jungle, a rickety old boat sails up a sluggish river. On board is one of the world’s most famous hunters, and he’s vowed to be the first to capture a Marsupilami. But that’s no easy prey. The long-tailed creature is smart – much smarter than any human believes. And an alliance with the local natives isn’t going to be much help: they hate the Marsupilami who keeps outwitting them, and they’re desperate to find out what he tastes like

The Marsupilami 2 - Bamboo Baby Blues

Author: Franquin, Greg & Batem
Age: 8 years and up
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Publication: September 2017
ISBN: 9781849183642
Price: £6.99 inc. VAT

A plane carrying two Chinese government envoys goes down in the Palombian jungle. A crate is parachuted out just before the crash. It contains a baby panda, official gift of China to a neighbouring country. The young survivor is found and taken in by the Marsupilami’s family, but they soon face a serious problem: their new charge only eats bamboo – the only local source of which lies inside the nearby native village…

In 1993, the much loved character starred in an animated series and in 2012 (I think 2012) he was the star of a live action/cgi movie Sur la piste du Marsupilami  (English HOUBA! On the Trail of the Marsupilami ).  Now YOU can see what all the fuss is about.  If you don't enjoy these books then your kids ought to.  Not buying the books for your kids is kinda child cruelty and you don't want to be accused of that, right?

So do yourself a favour and give your kids -or yourself- a big bouncy treat!

I mean Marsupilami!

Cinebook The 9th Art's new hit title!

Is the cheque in the post?

Cinebook the 9th Art: Iznogoud 14 - Iznogoud's Nightmares

Authors: Goscinny & Tabary
Age: All ages
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Paperback
Publication: August 2017
ISBN: 9781849183604
Price: £7.99 inc. VAT

We’ve all played that game. ‘Well, if I were in charge...’ We’ve all imagined what we’d do if we were president of this or minister of that. For Iznogoud, though, it’s not just a game. As Grand Vizier, he can pretty much decide that he will be anything he wants to ... except Caliph, of course. But, since it’s Iznogoud, every single one of his decisions is inevitably going to go astray and bring disaster – and that’s how we like it!

I tend to like Iznogoud and the artwork, even if my funnybone is not working. Same gags and visual humour here but the thing that struck me straight away was that the pages seemed to be over enlarged...say, like when you draw in A5 but then enlarge to A3 and it looks very noticeable.  It should NOT detract from the contents it's just something I notice.  I'm odd.

There are some nice commentaries in the jokes about 1970s politics in France -do not fear because at the start of the book the few gags are explained so you understand them.  Still funny.

Of course Iznogoud is good.

Mosaiks Digedags-Comics - Dauerausstellung in Leipzig - DDR-Kulturgeschi...

He Skips! He Sings! The Fool Dances Over The Hill!

To be quite honest I just cannot think of things to post about on this blog.

The fake scandal of SJWs v Anti SJWs that is now spreading out of comics into the role playing games field because the whole comic scene is ...a mess.

Fake company v not-to-be-mentioned artist...who they continue to employ.

And the total lack of any kind of feedback means I have no idea who agrees or does not or what someone might like to see covered in a post.

Fandom is dead and we all know it.  But there are still real fans out there who continue to collect their Silver and Bronze ages comics -and even some modern.  It's odd how more conversations take place following someone uploading a new video over at Dead You Tube than after a blog post.

Knocking myself out day-after-day for hours at a time when I could have kept things in my head and cut out the work. Hence my posting very little. I do not run a blog to get massive numbers of views each day because that means nothing.  It's a number.  Who are these numbers and what did they like or not like? meh.

There are some reviews planned and I have Black Tower's Phase II to organise while sorting out problems with printers and print on demand services.

Buy a or some Black Tower comics or books.

Do anything that at least shows that you support all of the effort and work.  Remember there  are fewer and fewer Independent publishers out there and Dark Horse and that "other one" are NOT Independents -they make a lot of money and do a lot of business (probably more than Marvel does!).

Yeah yeah yeah. Deaf ears. Blind eyes. Back to what you were doing.

The terror and mystery created by “Jack The Ripper” has been the subject of countless books, magazine articles as well as movies and TV documentaries. Ask anyone if they have ever heard of Jack The Ripper and it is doubtful anyone would respond with a “no idea.”

By that same token, ask people who “Spring-heeled Jack” was and you would be lucky to find anyone who had ever heard of him.

Spring-heeled Jack was the subject (loosely) of a film The Curse of the Wraydons (1946) and Dominic Keating also appeared as Spring Heeled Jack in the 2010 film Sherlock Holmes by The Asylum film company. The character has also featured in both American and British comic books and a number of books, for both children and adults.

But the fact that the Springald held the country –not just London– in a grip of terror much longer that the Ripper did is all but forgotten except for some half-truths and fanciful theories.

Now be prepared to read the full story of Spring Heeled Jack

By the 1700s the British fox was on the verge of extinction and about to follow the bear and wolf having been hunted for sport for centuries.

The answer was to import thousands of foxes per year for sport. But foxes kept dying out so jackals were tried. Some were caught, some escaped. Even wolves and coyote were released for hunting and "country folk" were very far from "happy" -some even threatening local hunts -one intending to release a wolf for a hunt- with legal and other consequences.

The summation of over 40 years research by the noted naturalist and former UK police forces exotic wildlife consultant reveals the damnable lie of "pest control" hunting but also reveals the cruelty the animals were subject to and how private menageries as well as travelling shows. Private menageries, or single exotic "pets" as well as travelling shows helped provide the British and Irish countryside with some incredible events such as the 1905 "vampiric" sheep killer of Badminton, the mystery hounds of Cavan and Coyotes of Epping Forest.

The Girt Dog of Ennerdale is also dealt with in detail -was it a tiger? A Tasmania Thylacine? This book gives the exact facts and details for the first time. Up-dated 2013 edition includes a section on sarcoptic mange in foxes and treatment plus a list of wildlife sanctuaries and rescue centres in the UK.

Strange & Mysterious Beasts?

http://www.lulu.com/shop/terry-hooper-scharf/strange-mysterious-beasts/paperback/product-23451940.html
&

I was told that it was probably a good idea not to reveal all of the contents of the new book. Fair enough. It is 324 pages with lots of photographs.  If you have read one of my previous books then I will point out that this new look at the chupacabra is expanded on.  I have managed to draw some conclusions on certain previously unidentified beasts.

I am guessing that the conclusions in the chapter on the Shunka Warak'in and the famous stuffed and mounted specimen are going to really upset some cryptozoologists.

In High Strangeness and UFO Contact? I looked at the faults in Ufology and how the subject needed drastic overhauling and I do the same here regarding mystery animal research which seems to be full of charlatans and liars out to make money rather than look for the truth. I try to give anyone approaching the subject matter some advice and guidelines but 'cryptozoology' and 'cryptozoologist' are two words they ought not to use.

Strange & Mysterious Beasts is the smaller format book while Mysterious & Strange Beasts is the standard larger A4 format.

IGNORE the "only ships from North America" as that is just a site message error

I need to point out that, much though I really do want to avoid this, US taxes are not leaving me much in the way of profit from sales.  I really do not want to increase book prices since I think that at the moment they are fair (considering what a purchaser gets and the amount of my work that gets plagiarized).  I am told that it has to be an option, however, I have until 1st February, 2018 to decide.

Anyway, enough publisher waffle, here are some of the contents:

Since 1947 it has been claimed that UFOs/flying saucers are evidence of aliens visiting the Earth. Since the 1950s claims of encounters with landed craft and alien beings were talked about but not taken seriously.

In the 1960s the subject of UFO abduction was a "slow-burner" until the whole "Grey" abduction phenomenon and claims made by researchers. But is there evidence to back up any of the claims -and what about those encountering Alien Entities but who were not abducted?
2017 is the time to assess the past evidence and look at the faults within Ufology.
Not everyone is going to be happy -debunkers or ufologists.
