A Question About The Avengers Epic Collection Books

I have no idea WHY I'm asking -maybe I'm hoping someone might know the answer!

I purchased The Avengers Epic Collection "Behold The Vision" which means that my lost, stolen and beyond repair old books are replaced up to volume 1, #76.

So, the next collection should be #77 up, right?  No.  The Final Threat  covers issues #150-166...WHAT??!

Those are a lot of issues not covered and as the Masterworks Collection (Avengers volume 7) that would continue where Behold The Vision ended is going for between £79-200 (a BIG WTF? to Amazon and Ebay) like feck am I buying that.

Now I know there are comickers out there who delve into this more than I do but. here is my question: any ideas if a volume covering #77 upwards is coming out or should I just look for a rare, non rip-off comic dealer for those issues?

  1. Well, as far as I know the EPIC COLLECTION line doesn´t do things n chronological order. They much rather start with issues that have been out of print for a long time or with stories that come after the omnibuses that are currently available. Like with the first Thor trade, they continued where the Walter Simonson omnibi ended, because they knew they were not going to put that stuff into another omnibus book. But they still wanted the money of younger readers who want to know how the story continues so they put it into an Epic collection.

I´m just glad I bought my three trades when they were cheap at amazon because right now you pay more than in comic shops.

Anyway, I guess you have these options :

wait until an Epic collection trade comes out that picks up with issue 77

wait until the Avengers omnibus books reach that point

wait until the Marvel Masterworks trades reach that point ( their last one ended with issue 58

buy the expensive Marvel Masterworks hardcovers ( volume 8 has issues 69 to 79 )

buy the Avengers ESSENTIALS and read it in black and white

or find a dealer where you can get the back issues.

Or you can find some of the issues in other trades :

  2. Subzero...you da maaaaan! I have the Essentials up to the last one but I wanted to sort out the mess of my collection and I got Masterworks 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and Masterworks Hardback 27 which takes me up to the Epic collection. I have Avengers #200-final issue complete but thefts, losses and damage mean I want to complete things. Someone complained about the Masterworks versions and that they "don't look like the comics" -THAT is because you can now see bright, clear colours -reminds me of the old Williams/Ehapa Avengers comics!
    THANKS!
    Now...sort out Rubezahl!!

  3. Just checked -some of the hardcover Masterworks you can get from Amazon in the US for around £15-20 UK ($35-50). On Amazon UK -£55-98.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
F**** I'll wait or visit the only comic shop (its a games shop not a comic shop) in the city that sells back issues of the 1980s -two bus trips so if I leave the house -epic journey.

  4. Yes, prices for Marvel comics on amazon are effing crazy right now. I wonder who´s inflating those prices. It´s cheaper to order from online comicshops.

  5. Oh, Amazon are behind this. We know Ebay is full of crooks and twisters but on Amazon its all them. My books sell there (IF) I am practically giving them away as Amazon gets a whacking profit. I was looking at Avengers action figures for my Great Nephews -WHO can afford £10-15 for a 3 3/4 inch action figure (12-15 Euros)?? The sellers getting that money? No. ANYTHING with "Avengers" in it is priced sky-high. They are killing comics and the toy biz but who cares?!

  6. I found #120-130 on Ebay but the guy was in Germany. I said I had no problem on postage: "I do NOT sell to the English". I'm hoping that was just bad English. Anyway, Ebay UK #120 costs £6.00 (7-8 Euros) and 121 -£20 -WTF???? Better see if I live long enough for the collection. These people are killing comics.
