Where Have All The Comic Geek Chics Gone?

Seriously, I am not joking.  I used to go onto Google+ daily and there they all were posting away about their new haul of comics with not the slightest idea about the comics they had bought nor the characters and yet they had been comic fans for 2-4 years!

There were also lots and lots of "My Comic Book Haul" videos on You Tube with the same type of thing.  "I've been a comic fan going back to the days when DC 52 was launched" -gauranteed to make me grind my teeth.  The other line of "These characters are never consistent for too long -it's the way comics have always been and I love that!" is guaranteed to have me throwing things around.

These days, apart from myself, Google+ when I sign on shows me NASA items, items from the occasional "my comic haul" or desperate attempt to get people to respond with "Which was your favourite comic character going way back to ten years ago" (honestly, these people have no idea that the Squadron Supreme had a GREAT 12 issue maxi series in the 1980s or that the Crime Syndicate started out in JLA in the early 1960s...or most things up to about 2008).  But that's it.

I had no idea that the internet was, apparently, consigning Google+ to the "near dead" list.  Though some internet experts state it still has some life in it but it has just gotten too complex and confusing when it shouldn't be.  For instance: people have "added you to their circle" which even internet experts with a decade or so behind them can't work out -other social media you have to accept requests so does this mean these people can access your information (personal)?  Linkedin I've had something similar with people adding me or joing my circle and I've never approved any of them.

The You Tube videos seem to be where people who desperately want to get TV work go to be 'outrageous' and talking to everyone like one of those insulting kids TV presenters.  "Black Comic Nerd" seems a case in point -but WTF does the fact you are "black" have to do with it???  Lots of very bright colours, high pitched, squeaky TV voices and lots of professional looking props seem to define these as if they are screaming to themselves "COMICS ARE HOT AT THE MOMENT -I CAN ACT NERDY AND LIKE AN IDIOT: TV EMPLOY ME!"

No, my dears, you really will have to wait until you grow up or some equally moronic person in TV thinks "Comics are hot -nerdy, geeky -this is my chance to push a project idea to the boss and make my name!"

Comic shops are desperately waiting for the next big comic -I love what one said: "We need a big comic event each month to keep bringing new people in!"  One comic person noted his local shop was so over stocked the owner sold him most of the titles at "20 cents a piece -then he gave me ten other copies and told me they weren't doing him no good!"  ****.

Dinosaurs triumphed over the last Avengers movie, making more money which must have hurt somewhere. But there are people in Hollywood and media study who are noting that the major earning super hero movies may be a thing of the past with Star Wars about to herald a new resurgence in sci fi movies and there are voices stating this is the direction some super hero movies may go (but learning from the recent Fantastic Four movie).

In fact, the internet has lost a great deal of virtual weight over the last few months.

Autumn/Winter and into 2016 ought to be very interesting.
