Disney WOULD Sell Marvel -DON'T Doubt It!

I was asked earlier today whether I seriously thought Disney might keep rights to all the characters from Marvel for its movie universe but sell off Marvel COMICS?

Yes.

When Disney got hold of Panini I warned those UK creators contributing to it's (Panini) titles that this work would be halted because that is what Disney does -European law is more on the side of creators than publishers and Disney MUST have control of everything.  In the US it can flex the dollars to get the outcome it wants.  Do the research -plenty of examples.

It took over and I was derided on UK comic forums and even in comments on CBO.  Then it happened and the UK creators just whined and rolled over.  They had made their own brown-nosing fate and wouldn't listen.  Meh.

I stated Disney were buying out Marvel.  Laughs, "full of crap" jokes.  But it happened.  I reported the Fantastic Four title was being killed off same thing until a month or two later the, uh, "Comic news media" actually 'broke' the story.

Disney can't have the movie rights well **** you Fox: you'll have no comic to leech-off.  I said the mutants were being killed off to be replaced by the fully owned Inhumans -look at what Marvel has done.....oh, yeah, months after I wrote this the "comics media" reported on it.

 "Enhanced humans" -NOT mutants.

I said how, despite the Disney promise of non-interference in Marvel Comics, Disney WERE moving in and calling the shots....oh, this is getting very repetitive, right?

And then the Marvel Movies creative teams get ousted by Disney staff.  So, Disney controls the comics, TV and movies so forget the idea of Marvel still being independent.

I've written before that the money from the comics side of things is really just loose change.  The real money is from TV, movies and the merchandise.

Look at it this way: Disney has movie/TV rights but sells the comic company as a "strong going concern" so they'll make money.  Selling off Marvel means one huge tax bill less, less money spent on offices, IT, staff wages and a hell of a lot more such as printing.  Makes sense.

But how did Disney, apart from being the owners, get it's vicious little roots everywhere without staff opposition?

Back-stabbing turncoats.  Seriously, you look at what is going on, who has lost their job or been "moved out" but WHO is maintaining their position and in some cases moving up a grade and you'll know who has shafted all their "great pals in the Marvel family"!  Money means more than loyalty because, "Hey, I get promoted and more money -not my fault those schmucks didn't make the cull!"

The money is EVERYWHERE but NOT in the comics.

Let the "comics news media" discuss all this AFTER it happens because it is in THEIR vested interests to not rock the boat with Disney or DC....it's called sycophantic.

  3. I have no issues with this really comics, films etc are and always shave been commercial enterprises corrupt maybe but they provide income for folk etc this is just business, what I don't like is the way they treat their properties with so little respect I think they can be commercial and still love what they do - but they seem to just love the mighty dollar and sadly that seems to be rubbing of on a lot of the new comic (etc) talent - never thought Id miss the "hippies" so err like spot on Ja De

  4. Hi, Paul. Firstly, thanks -it's been more than a little crap and I'm just waiting for the Good News streak! Yeah, comics were published to make money. If you read Marvel Comics The Untold Story by Sean Howe you see what was going on but at least the Marvel front line didn't disrespect its fans. I think this is why Stan Lee got out. At one point I think he came close to disloyalty to new Marvel bosses but his concerns were for people working there (I liked the story where he was told he had to fire staff and after each all the secretary heard was him vomitting). Its like the football club with the New Kit...oh, and IF you are a true fan there's the Away Strip....oh, and in case that clashes....fans soon rebelled against that. Make money but respect the product (people hate me calling it that) AND respect your customers/fans!
