Margot Robbie and Those Shorts....It's Only Sexism If It's A Woman

If Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) hasn't had it pointed out that she smashed down every argument about "It is NOT sexist" in this sentence...people ain't reading!
Here:

There was, the actress allowed, a degree of discomfort in squeezing into the skin-tight outfit. "As Margot, no, I don't like wearing that. I'm eating burgers at lunchtime, and then you go do a scene where you're hosed down and soaking wet in a white T-shirt, it's so clingy and you're self-conscious about it."

Nonetheless Robbie defended the new look. Harley Quinn was "wearing hot pants because they're sparkly and fun," she said, not because "she wanted guys to look at her ass."

Oh dear. From all I've seen trailer and photo-wise, I think the WHOLE point was people look at her ass. And "hosed down and soaking wet in a white T-shirt"...was that to show her character was resilient to inclement weather?

Look, Channing Tatum has been female "Beef cake" as a stripper and in other roles where he gets stripped down. He knows what's going on.

And there have been MANY "beef cake" posters intended for women over the years. Back in the 1970s a lot of women had Burt Reynolds on their walls....
This blog could get very seedy but it seems only the female "hotties" are sexist.

Women -and some men- like a hunk with a good body. Men -and some women- like a hot woman. Comments from women at the recent SDCC about Robbie and those shorts: "Oh she is so hot in those, can I even call 'em shorts?" and another one, who started blushing: "Seeing her in those shorts could turn me!"

I think Neal Adams once said that men like to see an attractive woman with a great figure and vice versa. Admitting it is NOT wrong.

What you have to look at is WHY most of the pre-film release concentrated on Robbie and LOTS of shots of those shorts. Was it sexist? It depends on your opinion. A gay woman might agree with a straight man that Robbie looks "Hot as hell". Another woman might say its sexist and get agreement from a man.

Men and women might just say: "WTF -it's her body and she wasn't forced at gun-point into those tights and did she argue about being hosed down??"

I just hope she was paid as much as Will Smith or Jared Leto.
Above: Sigourney Weaver in Alien

You can argue any point you want. I remember Sigourney Weaver in Alien when she stripped down to get into the pod for her long journey home -same arguments.

Bo Derek and her role in "10" -highlighted because of her nudity. She knew she had a good body and wasn't ashamed of it. Good. But many people think THAT was the film. There were, in fact, some good actors in supporting roles and their characters I was far more interested in.

And the number of women drooling over hot actors. They have the posters, too. Normal.

Concentrate on the bad script or directing and stop distracting from those. Everything seems to have gone ape-shit over the movie quality but suddenly a lot of negativity is concentrated on Robbie.  Deliberate distraction?

See, personally, I think it would have been a lot more scary had Robbie donned to old cartoon and comic costume for the role -and that character was described as "a psychotic bimbo" more than once.

In an era where actresses have to star in what used to be classed as soft core porn scenes (some are far worse than that) in mainstream movies I think "Her shorts were WAY too tight!" is a bit lame.

But DC and Hollywood know what the fan boys and girls want. Obviously not a great story.

Hey....I'll get lynched whatever I write!
