BritComics

There is NOTHING I can do about the "Restricted" group classification on the Britcomics Yahoo group.

There are many group owners who faced Yahoos last attempt to kill off its Group Community. So let me explain something.

Firstly "Restricted" does not mean that you cannot ask to join the group -I just have to approve/accept is all. Although I as group owner need to know who you are you can continue using your online name when it comes to posting etc.

If you have ever run or moderated a group you will know that accepting just anyone based on an anonymous name leaves you open to trouble. 2005-2008 saw many groups swamped with spam and porn and members emails were spammed. The responsibility for stopping this falls squarely on the group owner -Yahoo makes sure of that if absolutely nothing else.

Anonymous members also infiltrated and ruined several good UK comic groups that then folded. Hurling obscenities at other members or trolling is something that is not tolerated. There could be younger members and when it comes down to it if you do not want to discuss or read about comics then there are any number of UK forums where member abuse and trolling take place every day -and we all know which groups they are.

The Britcomics group (set up in 2004) is there so you can look and learn (it does NOT provide comic scans) in peace and not expect "comics nice guys" to ruin everything.  There are coming up to 2000 images of art and comic covers as well as related toys and the group has built up the internet's largest archive of UK comic creator/publisher photographs.

You can ask to join and be anonymous on the group -147 members have not had a problem yet!
