Marvel zombies got old pretty quick. For me zombies boomed in the 1980s and since then people have been flogging a dead (zombie?) horse. But that was not the problem here.
The Avengers call in the X-Men to look after their orbiting city as they go off on a mission. Yes, the X-Men they have battled and with a homicidal maniac Cyclops leading them -I am quite sure that they can explain why he got better but what a crock. You see, there are not enough Avengers on the team...no Avengers on stand by? There are a huge number of them but it was a tax month and so they were busy (I made that up).
The art was a little rough at the edges but I've seen worse on this title in recent years. What made me sit back and think Jed MacKay was a bad writer was the dialogue which at times seemed so amateur but gave me vibes of the old 1960s Mighty Crusaders title but done badly. I actually closed the comic then restarted from page one again and it was even worse. Each character at one point had to -after they had gone on the mission- explain why they were there and how ready they were while the Black Panther was the usual now sociopath character.
I am guessing that MacKay had no interest in reading up on the Avengers and certainly seemed to throw dialogue and story (of sorts) together as he went along.
Since the 1990s, it can be pinpointed and writers named, The Avengers have been badly written, rebooted, badly written again and rebooted to the point that I now do not really care if every single one of them is killed and the title folds -and I have read the title since the 1960s so suck on that.
Bring back Kurt Busiek and give him a good art team or just cancel the title. Also, stop making every Marvel character a sociopath and **** copying what is in the MCU because people who watch the movies do not give a flying shit about comics.

Worse, it seems the creators don't give a shit about the comics they're making either. They're ignoring the history and continuity of the characters they're drawing or writing. Have fun, push boundaries for sure.... But have respect for the legacy of what you're making. Otherwise, just make a new title ! They did it with the Defenders in the 70's. Good writers, good artists.... Now..... it's just sad. TTFN.
ReplyDeleteIt started in the 1990s. Some hack decided that the reason to disband the Avengers West Coast (ie folding up the title) was the NY Avengers basically putting them on trial and stating that they (AWC) had allowed their HQ to be infiltrated. The original Avengers HQ had been infiltrated so many times, severely damaged or needing to be rebuilt that the word "security" was not on their charter. Complete joke. Respect the characters and the following they had.
ReplyDeleteY'know, I'll never understand the reboot. Isn't that just a cop out ? If you have to reboot something you've automatically lost the point of the story that was being told. Agh. I give up. Tired and sad. It's late.... Early ? TTFN.
ReplyDeleteAgain, its because the companies think that is going to make them loads of money with millions of new readers. The New 52 was a total failure that Jim Lee sort of apologised for. The characters change so much that the fans just left. Look at it in the movies: new Batman or Superman movie and we have to have the whole origin over and over. The new Superman film doesn't do this I am told.
ReplyDeleteThat seems true. Good or bad, it's going to be different. And from what I've seen of it.... it's going to have a warped sense of humor ! Could be interesting. TTFN
ReplyDeleteMetamorpho wearing shorts in the movie does not look right but I will be watching itr when on DVD (I do not have an overdraft to pay to get into a cinema)
