Charlotte de la Cruz is overeducated and underemployed, wasting her time in a dead-end job in San Diego, and spending her free time chasing down conspiracy theories on the dark side of the internet.

When a real-life conspiracy crashes into her life, she's pulled into the orbit of the Assassins, a mysterious organisation of principled killers with roots stretching back thousands of years – and users of the stolen Animus technology, which allows them to experience the memories of their ancestors as if they were there!

Charlotte has a secret in her blood... the genetic memory of an ancestor who was in Salem at the time of the infamous witch trails: Tom Stoddard, an Assassin who witnessed a dark act with repercussions for the present day!

As Charlotte is trained in the Assassins' art, and as she begins to investigate the life of her ancestor... the forces of the Templar Order move against her. Will Charlotte learn the skills she needs to survive, and the truth she needs to prove her worth - before the Templars silence her forever?!

Apparently, "as you have previously shown interest in Assassins Creed", Titan sent me this new comic. By "shown interest" they mean I reviewed Assassin's Creed books such as:

    Art Of Assassin's Creed http://hoopercomicart.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/titan-books-art-of-assassins-creed-iv.html

Titan Books: The Art of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag  http://hoopercomicart.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/titan-books-art-of-assassins-creed-iv.html

Titan Books: Assassin’s Creed:The Ankh of Isis Trilogy http://hoopercomicart.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/titan-books-assassins-creedthe-ankh-of.html

    Get the point, right?

Now I think -I write "think" because it has been a while now- I enjoyed the books though they do have a slightly worn sci fi "your body is HERE but your mind is THERE" anyone remember Slaughter House Five (1972?) in which a man tells his story of how he became unstuck in time and abducted by aliens?  Feckin aliens they were at it back then all the time.

Anyway, I thought it was a nice touch that Charlotte goes to rescue a witch but cannot because she cannot do something in her ancestors body that he would not do.  By the Cringe -I had discussions over the years with people about how if we were back in the 17th Century would we be racist or still have that "thing" that makes us what we are now.  Let's get off of that because it will give you a headache.

As a starter issue this is okay but I wonder how many Americans and Canadians are going to baulk at the cover prices?

My one gripe? The cover.  Seriously, I had this discussion with Pekka Manninen that covers can be anything so long as it's relevant to the story.  This series kicks off with...a woman jumping. Did my eyes just snore?  Okay, Bat-Man and Spider-Man first appearance covers featured them swinging through the air....but ***** this is so unoriginal that if I saw it on a shelf I would not even open the comic to look inside.  "Oh. Woman jumping"

Traditionally, say with super-group covers, you have the team racing at you.  That shows you who is in the book so it works.  But with a series like Assassin's Creed and all it entails your high impact to the eye of customer cover is ----a woman jumping. And to be honest it isn't even very dynamic.  It is the cover that sells the book. This woman might just be a scaffolder, window-cleaner or one of those urban-runners....but even then...pfft.

Nice art and intro story but awful cover. Hope for better in future.
