Manga: orientarsi nel fumetto giapponese

 

"Le utenti e gli utenti della biblioteca dove lavoro mi chiedono dei manga, quali devo comprare?" "La mia classe mi parla spesso di manga e vorrei inserirli nel percorso didattico, come posso fare?” “Le mie figlie e i miei figli leggono solo fumetti giapponesi, da dove parto per scoprire questo mondo?”  Sono domande che ci vengono poste spesso e che pensiamo saranno sempre più frequenti. C'è un pubblico nuovo che sente il bisogno di confrontarsi per la prima volta (o quasi) con il manga, uno dei fenomeni dell’editoria contemporanea: per questo abbiamo creato una guida che aiuti a muovere i primi passi in questo mondo. Qui di seguito ne pubblichiamo un assaggio.            Il 14 luglio 2021, “Il Corriere della Sera” titolava: Manga, il fumetto senza scopo che ha conquistato il mondo. Il 2 novembre dello stesso anno, l'ex ministro della cultura Walter Veltroni scriveva, sempre sul “Corriere”, un pezzo d’opinione intitolato Perché i manga hanno conquistato i nostri ragazzi. Un pezzo pieno di inesattezze e di ansia per l’ignoto, ma che, al di là della retorica, sarebbe miope non identificare come sintomo di un sentire nuovo. In effetti, era già da qualche tempo che di manga si cominciava a parlare con maggior insistenza, anche in quei contesti letterari e culturali che mai prima avrebbero dedicato al fumetto giapponese una simile attenzione. A prescindere dai toni entusiasti, curiosi o apocalittici, il sottotesto era grossomodo sempre lo stesso, a partire dalle parole utilizzate: “esplosione”, “boom”, “invasione”, “crescita”, “conquista”, “soft power culturale”. Insomma: il manga aveva fatto irruzione nel discorso pubblico rivelando la sua potenza commerciale, posizionandosi settimana dopo settimana in testa alle classifiche di vendita, trasformandosi da produzione per una nicchia di appassionate e appassionati in “nuovo fenomeno dell’editoria”. E venendo raccontato di conseguenza. Chi frequenta il mondo dell’editoria a fumetti da prima del 2021 sa che questa “invasione” era fenomeno ben poco nuovo e che il manga, a partire dalla sua comparsa in Italia negli anni Ottanta, ha sempre venduto tanto. [...] Al suo arrivo in Italia, a inizio anni Novanta, Dragon Ball vendeva centomila copie ogni quindici giorni. In altri termini: è parecchio tempo che i manga vengono tradotti e pubblicati in massa, e altrettanto in massa vengono letti. Intere generazioni si sono formate con questi fumetti e hanno plasmato così il loro immaginario. Eppure qualcosa dev’essere cambiato perché prima di manga non si parlava. Poi, a un certo punto, sì. E molto. Ma cos’è a essere cambiato? La versione breve è: a cambiare sono state le regole con cui vengono stilate le classifiche di vendita, che hanno deciso di contare il fumetto giapponese assieme alla narrativa straniera, rivelando una disparità di fatturato già esistente. Potremmo quindi dire che la notizia dell’invasione ha generato l’invasione stessa catalizzando l’attenzione di pubblico e professionisti verso un settore finora poco considerato, generando interesse che a sua volta ha generato domanda alla quale si è risposto con un’offerta accresciuta. Il risultato è che, in effetti, si trovano oggi in giro infiniti più manga di quanti se ne trovassero fino a qualche anno fa. Se ne producono di più e di più tipologie e li si può trovare in luoghi inediti: le librerie, che hanno progressivamente modificato lo spazio dedicato al fumetto in favore di una presenza nipponica via via predominante; ma anche le biblioteche pubbliche e scolastiche, gli inserti culturali dei quotidiani... Insomma, uno degli effetti di questa recente invasione, reale o percepita che sia, è che se già l’immaginario del manga era centrale nella formazione di tante lettrici e di tanti lettori, ora lo diventerà sempre di più. Da cui la necessità sempre più diffusa di capire questo fenomeno, di trovare strumenti per orientarsi in vista di un confronto fattosi inevitabile.          La lettura prosegue su Hamelin n° 53: oltre al saggio di Matteo Gaspari di cui avete appena letto le prime righe, troverete un glossario di termini e concetti chiave per capire il manga; una corposa selezione di schede per orientarsi tra le tipologie più diffuse costruendo un alfabeto di letture di base; una serie di ritratti d’autore di grandi mangaka e una selezione di illustrazioni di Roberto Biadi che si rifanno all’estetica delle stampe tradizionali ukiyo. To make it clear: 

1.  if you order a book from the online store it does not involve international shipping. Books are printed in your region -that's how print on demand works.  

2.  The price of the book should be shown in your own currency.

3.  Obviously your local postal rates apply and there are options for tracked, special delivery and untracked (the least expensive) postage from within your region.

Ordered in your region, printed in your region and delivered by the postal system in your region.  It could not be more simple.

One important thing to note is that third party sellers will state "post free" and that is a lie. You often pay 30-75% more on a book ordered through a third party seller than from the online store. The reason is because the third party seller HAS to buy from the online store and the selling price usually covers two postal payments -0from store to them and then to you.  

People have purchased from third party sellers and not gotten their books or have had to wait over a month for them to arrive. At that point they contact me and it is all very simple: they tried to rob me of a sale and bought a book at a far more expensive price because they read "post free". That is important because if you buy from a third party seller you are removing the small profit I make on a book. Also, ordering from the online store is not just cheaper but, even though it has never happened since I started selling in 2009,  I can actually look into why you have not had your book delivered. Third party seller -your tough luck.

Support the creator and publisher not third party scammers.

I have asked to clarify which countries books can be ordered from as I know someone in Hong Kong and China were interested and it looks like you can order from there. According to the  print company:
