The Red Paper:CANINES vol.1

The Red Paper: Canids
Paperback,
A4
(21 x 30cms)
202 Pages
Photographs, illustrations and maps

By the 1700s the British fox was on the verge of extinction and about to follow the bear and wolf having been hunted for sport for centuries.  The answer was to import thousands of foxes per year for sport. But foxes kept dying out so jackals were tried. Some were caught, some escaped. Even wolves and coyote were released for hunting and "country folk" were very far from "happy" -some even threatening local hunts -one intending to release a wolf for a hunt- with legal and other consequences. The summation of over 40 years research by the noted naturalist and former UK police forces exotic wildlife consultant reveals the damnable lie of "pest control" hunting but also reveals the cruelty the animals were subject to and how private menageries as well as travelling shows. Private menageries, or single exotic "pets" as well as travelling shows helped provide the British and Irish countryside with some incredible events such as the 1905 "vampiric" sheep killer of Badminton, the mystery hounds of Cavan and Coyotes of Epping Forest.

The Girt Dog of Ennerdale is also dealt with in detail -was it a tiger? A Tasmania Thylacine? This book gives the exact facts and details for the first time. Up-dated 2013 edition includes a section on sarcoptic mange in foxes and treatment plus a list of wildlife sanctuaries and rescue centres in the UK.

The terror and mystery created by “Jack The Ripper” has been the subject of countless books, magazine articles as well as movies and TV documentaries. Ask anyone if they have ever heard of Jack The Ripper and it is doubtful anyone would respond with a “no idea.”

By that same token, ask people who “Spring-heeled Jack” was and you would be lucky to find anyone who had ever heard of him.

Spring-heeled Jack was the subject (loosely) of a film The Curse of the Wraydons (1946) and Dominic Keating also appeared as Spring Heeled Jack in the 2010 film Sherlock Holmes by The Asylum film company. The character has also featured in both American and British comic books and a number of books, for both children and adults.

But the fact that the Springald held the country –not just London– in a grip of terror much longer that the Ripper did is all but forgotten except for some half-truths and fanciful theories.

Now be prepared to read the full story of Spring Heeled Jack

Bill Paxton -RIP

The actor Bill Paxton has died at the age of 61.
The star of films including Aliens, Titanic and Apollo 13 died after complications from heart surgery, according to a statement released by his family.
“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” the statement said.
“A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker.
“Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
The actor’s first notable performance was in The Terminator in 1984 and was swiftly followed up with roles in Weird Science, Aliens and Near Dark. He developed a close working relationship with director James Cameron, also starring in True Lies and Titanic. “We’re just good friends, and he’s been incredibly loyal to me,” Paxton said in a 1998 interview. “I guess I always fantasized about hooking up with a director and doing a series of films with him. You think of the great actor/director teams, like Scorsese and DeNiro...”
The actor starred in a number of other big hits in the 90s, including Twister, Apollo 13 and Tombstone. He was also known for his small screen work, scoring three Golden Globe nominations for his role in HBO’s drama Big Love.
Paxton’s directorial debut came in 2001 with dark thriller Frailty which starred himself and Matthew McConaughey. He also directed Shia LaBeouf in golfing drama The Greatest Game Ever Played in 2005.
Paxton was most recently seen in the CBS adaptation of the hit movie Training Day and films including Nightcrawler, Million Dollar Arm and Edge of Tomorrow. His final big-screen role will be in the thriller The Circle, alongside Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.

“Baahubali 2” makers unveil new poster on Maha Shivaratri, and it’s no co-incidence

In part 1” Baahubali: The Beginning”, Prabhas had been shown as a devotee of Lord Shiva and therefore it is said that SS Rajamouli decided to release the new power-packed poster today.India TV Entertainment Desk, New Delhi [Published on:24 Feb 2017, 17:17:56] http://www.indiatvnews.com/entertainment/bollywood-baahubali-2-makers-unveil-new-poster-on-maha-shivaratri-and-its-no-coincidence-370165
Today is Maha Shivaratri or the night of Lord Shiva, and the makers of “Baahubali 2” have unveiled a new poster, which gives us an insight about the protagonist portrayed by popular actor Prabhas.

In the poster, Prabhas is seen standing tall on one foot on an elephant's trunk, and the other on its head.
The catch is that the poster was released on this auspicious day for a reason. In part 1” Baahubali: The Beginning”, Prabhas had been shown as a devotee of Lord Shiva and therefore it is said that SS Rajamouli decided to release the new power-packed poster today.

A remarkable and much-loved scene was when Prabhas shows amazing strength as he lifts the Shiv lingum on his shoulders. The scene was so fascinating that it is still etched in the memory of the fans.
The poster has grabbed several eyeballs and the fans can surely expect a grand treat when the film hits the cinemas on April 28. The filmmaker SS Rajamouli took to Twitter to share the new look of "Baahubali 2"e poster was released on this auspicious day for a reason. In part 1” Baahubali:
The way the Shiv ling scene was iconic in the prequel, likewise, it looks like the image in the new poster is going to have an influential effect on audience and is going to become yet another legendary scene of “Baahubali 2”
“Baahubali 1” was a staggering historical drama that broke all box office records and was treasured for its visual effects. Now, the stakes are higher. Can “Baahubali 2” emerge victorious?
“Baahubali 2” stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah among others in important roles and is bankrolled under Arka Media Works banner.

Problems With Your Model Bases/Grundlagen: Bases und Untergründe / Base (Tabletop-Zubehör, TWS)

Something for the wargamers, D&D and RPG folk out there -and I know you look at these things as I've seen the comments elsewhere linking back here.  At least you credit and share!

It's all "Use MDF or plasticard for terrain bases" but most of us do not have fully equipped studios/work benches with Dremmels and cutting equipment let alone the ability to buy and carry big sheets of the stuff.  So what do us folk with no money do?  We use thick card or even foam-core (used to display photos or art on).  Easy to cut with a good craft knife or big scissors.

I can make terrain all day long, even if I don't get the chance to use the stuff on a big table.  I have different temple and ruin styles, buildings the works. However, we get that problem of edges curling up because the card has absorbed the PVA (Elders/wood) glue and paint. So your building or terrain wobbles.

One gamer has suggested painting the card surface with enamel paint first.  It is not water based like acrylic so is not absorbed into the card or foam-core.  Lindybeige (about 4 mins in) suggests a way to stop the warping -he has used it successfully:

But what about the bases already warped?  Rip everything off and start again?  No. I've been watching Tabletop Workshop (I've nothing better to do with my life) and although it is all in German here is the good thing: if you make terrain or craft you just watch the tutorial.  Seriously, you know what PVA is (holzleim or "leim") and you know what a craft/safety knife is?  Just watch and it's easy without knowing German!

In this video you are shown in easy steps that do not need words, how to flatten out those card bases. Takes about two hours. I'm watching and listening and thinking "It CANNOT be that easy!"  I just tried the method and it works!   Starts about 2mins 50 secs in.  Fellas, ladies -this will work!

TWS is getting added to the blogroll!

Marvel's IRON FIST Featurette & Trailer (2017)

Städte neu sehen - Comiczeichner François Schuiten u. Szenarist Benoît P...

There Will Be NO Hell-Boy III -official!

Hellboy star Ron Perlman is mourning the end of the franchise he fronted after director Guillermo del Toro announced earlier Tuesday that a third installment will not be made.

“In loving memory of the #Hellboy franchise officially biting the dust, I will take the rest of the day off Twitter,” Perlman wrote on the social media platform. Perlman donned prosthetics and red body paint for 2004’s Hellboy and 2008’s sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Prior to Del Toro’s announcement on Tuesday, talks of a third movie had been swirling for nearly a decade.

Dave's Pop Art "The Return" -He Said He'd "Be Back"!!!

Colouring books are on their way and will be available on a first come first served basis from 7pm on the opening night.....it's the only way to win the "Mystery Painting"

It Was THAT Close A Thing At 04:15 hrs

Yes, I am aware that Blogger has again managed to somehow delete images from posts on CBO. They do this but will not respond to queries about it.  They ban a post (more kudos to me) but will not discuss it (others are dealing with this matter now).

At times I wonder why I bother -lot of work and the network whose blog managing screw things up and just go "la la la la". I'm glad that CBO cut off date is looming though after the night I had I did almost delete the blog at 04:15 hrs this morning.

Remember that if images are missing from an interview I've done -such as John Cooper's (which has had images replaced posted several times)- the pictures and photos are non deletable in my Hooper Interviews book.

Now, rather than sit here with the internet time I have reading the "no comments made" section of CBO or the AOP blog -I'm off to beg for money!
