Update
There has, apparently, been a "Twitter backlash" (oh dear gods above help us!!!) over this piece of casting. A few facts.
1. If you are buying and supporting the crap Disney-Marvel are publishing then your opinion does not count because YOU have allowed this.
2. If you think for one moment that YOUR opinion counts one little bit to either Disney (the corporation known as a "cultural rapist") or to Marvel who have crapped on everyones favourite characters and both companies have lied and cheated fans out of their cash so many times...well, YOU need to grow up. Get an IQ.
3. Disney-Marvel know how this works and who their 'fans' currently are. YOU have allowed this.
I think comments such as "This is gonner provide some great Slash fiction -hot aunt and horny nephew" -and there are worse- says it all.
You get what you deserve and YOU have shown Disney-Marvel that you will buy anything they say. As the man said: "We're Marvel (You are a piggy bank)!"

You know, there was a lot of talk amongst movie folk (or film bloggers -whateverrrrr) that with the new Spider-Man there was some scouting about for an Aunt May that would, uh, "appeal" to young men. The word bandied about was "Milf" and to be honest I was inh two minds about the truth of the rumours.
Well, now we know as a few comic bloggers have already posted "Aunt May is a real Milf!!"
I sigh and take a step back.
As Variety report:
Now that Marvel and Sony have found their Peter Parker, the focus has turned to the aunt who raised him.
Sources tell Variety that Marisa Tomei is the choice to play Aunt May in the next installment of the “Spider-Man” franchise.
Sony and Marvel had no comment on the casting.
While insiders could not say where things stood in the deal-making process, they said an offer was made late last week for the Oscar-winning actress to join Tom Holland, who was recently tapped to play the webslinging superhero.
Marvel and Sony recently hand-picked Holland to play Spider-Man after months of meetings and screen tests with eager young actors, in addition to selecting “Cop Car” helmer Jon Watts to direct the pic.
The studios are still in the process of finding a writer to join Watts in the screenwriting process, but insiders explained that the top brass also wanted to lock down other actors who would appear in multiple films so schedules could be worked out before shooting commences next year.
Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will produce the pic, and though Holland is expected to first appear in “Captain America: Civil War” in a cameo appearance as Parker, it seems more likely that Tomei will not appear until the first “Spider-Man” film bows on July 28, 2017.
The job marks a new direction for Tomei, who generally sticks to dramas like “The Ides of March” and “The Wrestler,” or romantic comedies like “Crazy Stupid Love” and “My Cousin Vinny” (which landed her an Oscar), rather than studio tentpoles.
She can be seen next in “Trainwreck” alongside Amy Schumer and is currently filming “The Big Short” with Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling. Tomei will also have a recurring role in the second season of Fox’s hit “Empire.” She is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

ReplyDeleteI always imagined that Ellen Corby from The Waltons was more Aunt May material, as this was how she was originally drawn!
ReplyDeleteYou realise Ellen Corby is dead...right? Don't think she'll be very "Gilf" in a Spidey film!
ReplyDeleteNote that I used past tense folks! So Ellen Corby being the master molecule Aunt May, and any representation of her would be closely following. Ellen Corby: 1911-1999.
DeleteThis from the same company that shrinked Lindsay Lohan´s boos in HERBIE RELOADED via computer. They don´t know in which direction they go..........
