Terry “Terry Hooper “ Hooper, president, editor-in-chief and head honcho of the wildly successful BTCG announced today that its entire line of publication would be re-launched and rebooted as of 2nd November.
“We’ve decided to go back to basics.” Terry says.
“After twenty nine years of wonderful stories, we’ve found ourselves with some problems. In the early stories, Professor Twatt was just a mad professor type, but after a few years he grew into the flying, super -strong muscle man with the power to move planets with the power of just his pinky finger that we’ve all grown to love. His origin story (originally just a hand-waving caption stating that he was an ex-member of the British Rocket Group) became more complex, involving the Russian Mafia, ancient Martian power rays, and, in a story we’d like to forget, a magic Atlantean dwarf named “Nibblik”.
Similarly, Rev. Merriwether became less and less of a straight forward demon hunter, and more of a “man with a dark past on the run from the law in the Australian outback on his motorcycle”. Add to this, the brief run featuring his sex-change and marriage to Old Nick, and where do we stand? All of these stories are canon, and they all have to fit somewhere into the continuity.”
The re-launch promises to tackle all of these problems, while simultaneously injecting a new life into the company, bringing it fully into the 21stC.
“ Its not just about the continuity snarl” says Terry “Ace Face” Hooper, sipping on an ice-and-ganja mocha on the patio of his luxurious Bristol riverside apartment. “Its about making the characters relevant to the modern reader. To me, Robbie Rocket Pants symbolises the modern-day, 21st-century superhero. He’s young, he’s hip. He’s one of us. Every time we use a cell phone or an iPod, we’re just like Robbie using his rocket pants. We’re all reaching for the sky, just like him. “
The re-boot, Terry “Shakin’” Hooper explains, will effect, retroactively, every title and character that Black Tower has ever published.
It is far from being just a cheap gimmick, designed to exploit fans.
“ No new stories will be published that contradict the old stories, and no actual changes will be made to the characters or their continuity, but if you go back and read them, or more accurately, buy new copies and read the stories afresh, then you will see them all in a completely new light. It’s not a crass attempt to wring money from people. It’s a vitally important step in the ongoing success of the Black Tower family of comics and fans”
"78 new first issues with crayola coloured covers is no joke."
This is truly the Black Tower age!
