BIOGS Are Returning!!!

At long last new generations can see the incredible artwork that has inspired comic artists and even modellers!

YES!

Rebellion are finally bringing out a book featuring the Great Massimo Belardinelli's Dan Dare...and BIOGS!!!

 John Freeman's Down The Tubes:
2000AD Dan Dare Collection Volume OneThanks to Rebellion, publishers of 2000AD, we’re delighted to bring you this exclusive Dan Dare item!

Featured here is Dave Gibbons specially commissioned and truly stunning cover for the first collection of the “Dan Dare” strips from 2000AD.

This Dan Dare: The 2000AD Years collection – the first of two – is the first time stories of the space hero as he appeared in the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic have been brought together.

When 2000AD launched in 1977, a rejuvenated, hard-edged Dan Dare was the lead strip in the first issue, alongside other classic strips such as “Invasion”, “Flesh” and “Harlem Heroes”, the latter drawn by Gibbons, who would later make 2000AD’s version of Dare, first seen in Eagle in the 1950s, very much his own.

THE DIVINE – alte Mächte und moderne Waffen

Divine_gr

David Sillito looks back at George Cole's life on screen

Actor George Cole, best known for playing Arthur Daley in TV's Minder, has died aged 90.

Cole played the Cockney wheeler dealer Daley for 16 years, between 1979 and 1994.

He also starred in a number of St Trinian's films as shady businessman Flash Harry.

Agent Derek Webster said Cole had died at the Royal Berkshire hospital following a short illness, surrounded by his family.
Cole played opposite Dennis Waterman's Terry McCann, an affable bodyguard, in ITV's Minder for more than a decade.
Dennis Waterman and George Cole
Waterman said he had "the privilege of spending Tuesday afternoon with him and Penny and, although very frail, his wit was as evident as ever."

"I am so sad to hear of George's death. His family must be devastated, and I am absolutely certain that anybody who ever knew him, will feel the same.

"I'm so grateful to have been a friend of this wonderful man. We worked together for many years and my boast is that we laughed all day every day.

"He was an amazing man, a wonderful actor and besotted with his family. Farewell old friend."

Waterman, who sang the Minder theme tune, left the show to be replaced by Gary Webster for the final two series.

Talking to BBC News, Webster called Cole a "comic genius" who "made you realise there's an Arthur Daley in every family".

"He was one of those characters you never thought you never thought you are going to be without, both as an actor and a character," he added.

"He was a great guy to work with and a real genuine gentleman."
Arthur Daley became a TV legend as a small-time crook who was always dreaming of bigger things, with the series regularly drawing in audiences of 17 million.

Cole also played Flash Harry, a remarkably similar character, in four St Trinian's films between 1954-66, starring alongside the likes of Terry Thomas, Joyce Grenfell and Sid James in the boarding school comedies.

It also allowed him to work with Alistair Sim, who had become his mentor after taking him into his home at the age of 15 alongside his adoptive mother.

They had such a close relationship that eventually Cole opted to build and live in a house next door to Sim and his wife, continuing to appear in a number of films together.

Cole began acting in the early 1940s, appearing with Lawrence Olivier in The Demi-Paradise, and taking a small role in Olivier's star-studded Henry V.

He joined the war effort in 1944, joining the Royal Air Force, before resuming his acting career when the conflict ended.

He found himself consistently in work, on stage, television film and radio.

As well as the St Trinian's films, he also starred opposite Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in Cleopatra, and gothic horror The Vampire Lovers.
Cole was 70 when Minder finished but he still worked regularly, with guest roles in the likes of Midsomer Murders, Heartbeat and New Tricks, which also starred Waterman.

Cole, who was made an OBE in 1992, married his second wife Penny in 1967.

Neue Vampir-Noir Serie DAY MEN

A Few Words....

In between decorating the house and bouts of pain -"no pain no gain" (I'd like some of the "gain" though)- I'm looking at a couple of books for reviews.  So, I've not given up just yet!

I write this because I think a few people misunderstood something in the last posting on the UK comics 'industry'.  I'm still in comics.  Nothing has changed.  Retirement is drawing closer, though but I am not giving a definite date.  :-P

One thing I noticed was the climb in CBO views and, as I have written before, the highest number of views for CBO has come from the Chinese language postings. That's views of MANY thousands.  But I can now tell you that the last UK comic industry posting is the highest viewed CBO post in English. The views are incredible -as is the overwhelming support from people in the UK comic scene as well as comic fans.  And, thank you, for pointing out that the arschloch who wrote "delusional" because he had no counter arguement, was the delusional one.

If I got this many views for every posting it would be great!

Once decorating is out of the way and my eyes calm down I will get back to The Green Skies.  It's by no means a dead project!

Figure reviews. Well, all I have to write about that in response to the people who asked is -I get figures I'll review them!

So, thank you for all your support and if anyone can explain WHY Blogger will not show views from New Zealand and Australia I'd appreciate it!

OPERATION OVERLORD – Der Sturm auf die Normandie beginnt

I'm sure this is the Casterman series in German.  According to Comics.de

OperationOverlord

Thank You and a bit of an Apology

I have said before that the highest number of views CBO has received were via our friends in China. However, I have some news and an explanation.

My last ever posting on the UK comics industry exceeded views of any other single CBO posting since the site started on Blogger!

Yesterday I was going to post some items but spent the day responding privately, were needed, or simply deleting huge numbers of comments mainly "Well said!"/"Sense at last!" and "spot on!" so I have to write THANK YOU for all those comments but I hope you understand the deletions -CBO was hardly useable- it was all appreciated.  And to the former pro comic artists/writers now doing shelf-stacking and other jobs while trying to get work outside the UK -sorry my emails were brief but my eyes were killing me by 1800 hrs.

And for my pro comic friends who emailed privately: yes, I guess we all know just who the delusional one is on this subject.

Yes, I am also aware that the UK "comics mafia" (they must get erections (unless they are, as I suspect, suffering from erectile dysfunction) from being labelled that!) has restarted its campaign against me. I don't care.  Read that posting.

Dougie has pointed out that the long Wikipedia entry he did for me re. my UK comics work of 40 years and the entry on my Small Press work from the 1970s on, have all been deleted over the weekend as I have "made no significant contribution to" comics/small press.  I did warn him.  The thing is I know WHO is behind that and other problems since 1987.  A person who got a bad review in Zine Zone (I was not the reviewer) and he has stated this over and over.  And that is sad.

One thing I need to note, though, and this has NEVER been a secret and it has been discussed over the years on CBO.  "He apparently has a form of schizophrenia" is not correct and shows why a lot of us campaign to change attitudes toward mental health issues -a lot of people in comics suffer from depression and I've helped a few of them.  I have had, since I was 11 years old, manic depression. Bi-polar.  Whatever you want to call it.  That is NOTHING to do with schizophrenia.

I think this all shows that what I wrote was spot on. There are no counter arguments to that posting,     hence the personal attacks.

So THANK YOU again to all commenters but, please, this subject is now over.

Life is too short to get worked up over it or the delusional sewage eaters!

I Had To Laugh

Seriously.  Regarding my final posting on the UK Comic industry post, someone called Tony Lee commented "delusional"!

Now, no, I am NOT delusional -that WAS my last posting on the subject but I like to hear from all fans.

LOTS of emails from out of work UK comic creators stating "spot on".

Of course, there are those who wangle a lot of work and turn out mediocre scripts/series in comics and because they get constant work tend to be very delusional about reality for the real comickers because "if there is no UK comic industry" they cannot be pandered as "stars".  Ego always brushes over facts.

I clicked "Tony Lee's" profile to find it is private and no one but selected minions can view it. Now, I put up a post with point after point all backed up and covering 40 years of experience in comics. So, I am guessing that this "Tony Lee" is just another one of those flamers because, and here is a pointer to you bloggers about the comments to ignore, all he/she could respond with was "delusional" and these people have an image of you getting angry, annoyed and upset because you cannot respond back to them.  That's what they do.  It's that little comic clique again.

Of course I can respond where it matters -here on CBO where EVERYONE can see what I post. I'm not hiding behind a private blog (if it exists).

As for "Tony Lee"...well, he's Spam.  But I do have a message for him from the heart....

And that DOES end the British comic 'industry' postings.

The Daily Mirror online http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/cilla-black-dead-legendary-tv-6180303 just published this. And AS USUAL the BBC News appears to have heard nothing about this. This is the journalism we pay for???

Yeah, this is not very likely: Fantastic Four Cast Want Silver Surfer & Namor In Sequel

Before you get suckered in by money-sucking, evil little profiteering toe-rags let me tell you now: The Sub-Mariner and Silver Surfer will NOT be appearing in the next FF movie.  If you read the comments by the two stars they are just giving off hot air but on to the item:

The cast of the new ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot have been talking about the characters they’d love to see in the sequel, namely a fan favourite and a character not yet seen on the big screen.

Michael B Jordan, who plays The Human Torch and Jamie Bell, who plays The Thing shared their thoughts with ComicBook.com during the promotional trail for the film set for release next week.

“You can’t get away from Silver Surfer,” says Bell. “I know chronologically speaking that was the next villain in the previous franchise but I think Silver Surfer is cool looking.”

This is as likely as it is unlikely. The Silver Surfer is a top character Fox own as part of the Fantastic Four license, but they may be concious about repeating the past - as Bell mentions.

“Namor is a cool one,” Jordan then said, adding that the character is, “by far, he’s the strongest mutant. You know what I’m saying? Maybe not by far, but he’s the strongest mutant. It would be a pretty interesting battle, the Fantastic Four vs. Namor.”

Sadly this won’t be happening as the rights to Namor The Submariner belong to Universal Pictures and Marvel - the former belonging the distribution rights as they would for any solo Hulk movie.
Bell also spoke about how he wants to see the relationships between the four continue to grow.

“I’d like to see more of how the characters interact with each other famously from the comic,” he said. “It would be appealing to me. This [film] very much is to get them to that point, to take them from people you don’t know, to transition into characters you can recognise.

“The job of the next film is taking it further and having the characters already established, seeing them interact in the very famous kind of way. Things between me and Johnny get very antagonistic. More of a blossoming love story between Reed and Sue. More of a family dynamic. Stuff like that would be great. There’s a wealth of material and with a 90 minute run time of an origin story it’s very difficult to fit it all in.”

_____________________________________________________________________________

From what I've seen so far I have absolutely no interest in this movie.  The 1990s Roger Corman movie -uh, 'never released'- was far truer to the comic than even the later 2005 (?) movies.  Look at this poster for the new film.  I looked out of the bus today and thought my eyes were playing me up because I thought "did they use toys to replace the actors?"  But, no -this is an awful -AWFUL- poster!

Corman had various difficulties including budget but his movie was very enjoyable...though it was 'not' released of course (hah!)

But back to topic.  The Silver Surfer and Sub-Marinber are NOT the next big movie characters to waste all your money on.  Buy the comics because you love and enjoy them because with 1.5 billion comics across America alone, they ain't going to make you rich!
