Mike Allwood, former organiser of the Bristol Comic Expo, has been in touch re. a possible comic venue -the Hilton (Ramada) on Redcliffe Way (traditional home to comic events). They have said:
"We would be happy to give them the whole Ballroom for £750.00 (that way they can still use Park Ave if they need it!). Foyer is of course complimentary"
For a one day comic event that seems a lot, and it depends on comic book dealers or publishers want a table and I'm looking at no higher price than £50.00 per table -the intention is to cover the price of the space NOT make a profit. So, I could knock £10 of each table IF I got 20-25 tables booked.
The idea, as I mentioned before, is that this would be free entry because that means punters have more to spend at tables and someone with kids might be drawn in. It would be a comic event rather than geared toward cosplay (though cosplayers would be welcome) as there are too few events that back issue traders can get into these days. Obviously, Small Press publishers can book a table as the aim is to combine comics and zines.
Once I have found out the table capacity then I can take it further but covering the room cost is probably the most important thing.
August 2016 is the month aimed at. So, if you are a comic trader or publisher let me know if you are interested and once things are sorted I can get back to you.
