The much-anticipated results of the latest Lego review period are in and "The Big Bang Theory" and the Lego Birds Project are the big winners. Peter Espersen from Lego Ideas gives the inside scoop on what's coming out next and how the Lego review process works.
Six Lego Ideas projects reached over 10,000 supporters between January and June and were eligible for the first 2014 review. Those projects included the Lego Birds Project, Modular Apple Store, "Back to the Future," Jules Verne train, "The Big Bang Theory" and two "Doctor Who" projects.

"Getting 10,000 votes is a huge accomplishment in itself," Espersen said in the video. "But it's also just the beginning of the journey for your project."

After hitting 10,000 votes, submissions enter the Lego review process, during which a team of Lego specialists including set designers, marketing and business representatives evaluate every project that has 10,000 supporters to decide if it has potential to become an official Lego set. The group analyzes the votes and the project information, and also figures out the set's playability, safety and whether it's a good fit for the Lego brand.

One of the winning sets, the Lego Birds Project, was created by a gardener -- Lego Ideas member DeTomaso -- who designed detailed models to educate children and adults about birds like the Red Breasted Robin, the Blue Jay and the violet-eared hummingbird.

The other winning set, "The Big Bang Theory," was created by Lego Ideas members Alatariel and collaborator GlenBricker. "This Lego set will be a true match made in scientific heaven (well, actually in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), because the brilliant characters in this popular American TV show appreciate Lego bricks," Espersen wrote in his Lego Ideas blog post.

Lego is still working on pricing, final design and release dates for these winning sets. The Lego Ideas Board is also still considering making one of the two "Doctor Who" Lego sets that reached over 10,000 votes an official.

"The next review phase is already underway, and this time it's going to be an even bigger one," Espersen remarked in the video.
