You know, I think there is a lot of moaning going on. Poor coverage of news items on TV? No. Ebola? No. Peter Capaldi having a Scots accent on Dr Who now THAT needs complaining about!
Seriously? American viewers: "We have to keep rewinding ever couple minutes to understand" and "I have to have captions on the whole time".....maybe if you sat down and concentrated it might not be a problem? I have bad tinnitus but guess what? I've not missed a thing Capaldi has said. He's clear, crisp and, yes, at times snappy in delivery -as people are in every day life!
A lot of English newspapers and sources have picked up on this complaint and started pushing it. Do I detect a little anti-Scots feeling because of a certain upcoming vote? How did the English and Americans deal with Rab C. Nesbitt -it was very popular in the UK....no trouble understanding that.
Oh. I see. Its a Dr Who in which there is no appallingly bad Southern accent imitating (and failing) Kenneth Williams. Or not Matt Smith who delivered lines the same way....but with an English accent. Racism does not just apply to countries OUTSIDE the UK you know -as the Welsh side of my family could attest to.
American TV programmes...well, I thought it was just me but, no. Slurred speech, mumbling -and we are talking some of the top US TV here. On the lower end "Honey BooBoo"....even in the US there are sub-titles in some places. We put up with it.
But a Dr Who with a Scots accent....no no no no no no no that just will not do. I think some Dr Who fans are getting dumber. They are distracted by pretty colours in episodes. If you cannot cope with accents on TV how the hell do you cope in every day life???
Go sit in the cupboard for four days.
