PLEASE Consider Supporting CBO

Please consider supporting Comic Bits Online because it is a very rare thing in these days of company mouthpiece blogs that are only interested in selling publicity to you. With support CBO can continue its work to bring you real comics news and expand to produce the video content for this site. Money from sales of Black Tower Comics & Books helps so please consider checking out the online store.
Thank You

Google+ Hits

From 719,000+ yesterday to 727,000+.  Wow. Thanks!

  1. Not to rain on your parade, Terry, but I suspect there must surely be something going wrong there. That many hits, and only two semi-regular commenters? It just doesn't seem right. Might be an idea to get things checked out.

  2. Hi, Kid. It does make sense actually. I have 17 followers on Google+ and they and others do "google+" my postings so that they get quite a wide audience there -mine is also a "public" account and, luckily, for my own sanity, I can see how many hits each post gets -the "My Comic Shop Documentary" the other day has been getting high hits each day and with China, the USA and European countries viewing CBO each day...yeah, they are correct. 17 followers on blogger plus the feeds to Face Book and even DeviantArt links...add to that 14 years of solidly building up things from Yahoo360 and other servers to WordPress where hits were as high as 15000 on some days and it does ,make sense. Lack of comments...I know someone who designs internet sites for a living and he says that comments are invariably low or non-existent on some sites because "Its a view and go media". Actually, I'm glad there are only 4-5 regular commentors because otherwise I'd have to respond to every comment. There are comic blogs on Google+ that have exceeded 1million -and well above. I was tempted to move everything to Google+ and scrap blogger BUT, though the number of views and links surprises me that is not THAT important to me. I don't earn money from this and the good thing about dyscalculus is that "its just numbers" -its why I had three different people check the figures for me! I(n the end, if people enjoy what I write, while I still do this blog, fair enough. One of my yahoo groups had 3500 members and after 2 years I closed it. Another reached 5056 and I closed that because it was distracting me from work. When it comes down to it this is just fun.

  3. Just today, so far, the views of CBO are USA 4224....China 3426...UK...679! The UK is always lagging 3rd, 5th or even 6th place. My blog, like me, are better known outside the UK. I'd sooner be rich, though!

  4. If they enjoy it enough to come back (as they must do), you'd think they'd be polite enough to comment now and again. It's like someone preparing a meal for you and you not thanking them. Some people, eh?

  5. Sadly, I feel, most people. It's rare to get thanked for the work you do, but COMMON to get pasted for the work you DIDN'T do. Isn't it a bizarre world when people will get off their butts to knock Terry for not commenting on the death of a TV personality, but won't comment on why they read the OTHER posts ?
In many ways I agree with Terry's comment 'When it comes down to it, this is just fun'. That's all anything is. Sure, we all have our highs and lows, but if it's not fun for us - why are we doing it ? The documentary about the comics store ( a fun little documentart by the way - I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did complain to myself while watching that it wasn't 'in depth' enough - but at the end, when I realized ( I'm slow) that the documentary maker was a customer of the store, and that the stores owner SKO had died ( 2010 - RIP ), I knew why the documentary was as loving as it was ) pretty much underlines this. SKO, the owner, would not have continued doing what he was doing unless in some way he was enjoying what he was doing. If you haven't seen the video documentary yet, it's well worth a look. Well... I'm off to do what I have to do.... see you in a bit.

  6. As far as I know Steve Oto is still alive! If Anthony (the film-maker) sees this I hope he'll confirm that. Anthony started working at the store while in Elementary school -indexing the back-issues. The film is a tribute of sorts.. The older guy towards the end -Jay- ran a flea market comic store. I never put two-and-two together until I saw the promo for the film about him. He owns the legendary "Jay's Comics" that I've heard of in old fanzines and so on. And they closed the flea market down!
And people commenting? I never expect it any more. At one time it ticked me off but now I don't care!!

  7. Ooops. My bad. This is what happens when you assume too much - at the end ( near ) it says this one's for you Mr. Oto. ... but before that it says "In memory of HARRY K Oto July 8 1926 - June 3 2010" .... the FATHER of SKO. Agh. Apologies all around. This may not be an Otoism but: 'always check your facts before posting a comment.' Guilty. I'm really sorry for that - I'll be more careful in future...oh... and good luck to Mr. Disato with his documentaries. There aren't enough 'down home' documentaries... and one day these people - and their lifestyles - will be gone. I'm off home. Bye.
