PLEASE Consider Supporting CBO
Please consider supporting Comic Bits Online because it is a very rare thing in these days of company mouthpiece blogs that are only interested in selling publicity to you. With support CBO can continue its work to bring you real comics news and expand to produce the video content for this site. Money from sales of Black Tower Comics & Books helps so please consider checking out the online store.
Thank You

One of my absolute favourite artists and I have books in my own library which I grabbed as soon as I saw they were available as they are few and far between. Sadly, she died of a heart attack far too young - 1908-1963. Just quickly looked on YouTube: My goodness. Where did all these videos suddenly appear from?? Ah. Of course. It's coming up to the sixtieth year. She was incredibly talented and her paintings were the recipients of these instant ghost visitors. I've actually just realized that my mind is so full of traffic about her that I cannot channel anything in a coherent manner. That is strikingly unusual for me! She was friends with an ex-pat, Leonora Carrington and both have fascinating and sometimes courageous stories that culminated in their friendship, after both had fled to Mexico, until Remedios untimely death. The books I have are Unexpected Journeys, Surreal Friends and Remedios Varo: The Mexican Years. The latter has incredible reproductions of her exquisitely detailed oil paintings.
ReplyDeleteAddition: The book Surreal Friends is about three Surrealist artists and they are Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo and Kati Horna. Unexpected Journeys is a very detailed look at Remedios' personal journey from her birthplace, Spain, to her flight from danger to her arrival and subsequent life as a thriving artist in Mexico and her friendship with Leonora Carrington. I have yet to see if there is publicly available film of Remedios that has surfaced because of the sixtieth anniversary of her death. There certainly are interviews with Leonora at her home in Mexico.
ReplyDeleteNote to Terry. There is no longer any indication that the comments are to be reviewed before publishing. Just thought I'd let you know. Not sure if it's just Windows 11 being a prat as usual or if there has been a change to the site format so there is no longer an indication. It looked as if the comment had just disappeared into thin air as if the site were not responsive to the entry. Relieved this morning that you saw it and it's actually there. Thanks! Saddened that there is no indication as to the welfare of Ben. Disheartening.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, the acknowledgement HAS appeared this time! Albeit in the flash of a second!

ReplyDeleteI think it's just down to the wretched connectivity that I have here. I believe Noah used it to contact all the animals that weren't in his neighbourhood - Some didn't make it!
