Remember the day...

When the wind has scattered everything
Remember
When the memory has forgotten
Remember...

Remember that we can give everything
Remember that we can break everything
And if it's a man...
If it's a man
Tell him about love at will
About love at will

Remember that we must give everything
When we want, that we come together
Remember that we can break everything
Fates are linked
And if it's a man...
If it's a man
Tell him about love at will
About love at will

The barely let out breath
The eyes are wet
And these tight faces
For a minute
For an eternity
The hands were raised
The voices are knotted
Like an embrace of the world
In unison
With the man that we will be...

Remember that the world has changed
To the noise of footsteps that resonate
Remember the disenchanted days
And the silent fates
And if it's a man...
If it's a man
Tell him about love at will
About love at will

Refrain

When the wind has scattered everything
Remember
When the memory has forgotten
Remember...

I have checked spelling and grammar as well as re-edited ome photos over 10 times since the end of November and if it is not ready now it never will be!

Cinebook the 9th Arrt: Alone 11 -The Nailers In The Night

Paperback
Authors: Fabien Vehlmann; illustrated by Bruno Gazzotti
Age: 10 years and up
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Publication: June 2020

ISBN: 9781849185387

£7.99 inc. VAT

While trying to escape an avalanche triggered by the killers of the First Families, Ivan drowned. Though this is a less permanent problem that it used to be for the children, Ivan ‘returned’ far from his friends, in a small village in Brittany where he used to holiday with his parents. There he lives alone, preparing for the long trip back to Neo-Salem. Until the day Camille, now revealed as the Midnight Child, pays him a terrifying visit, and the nightmare begins …

When this series first appeared my initial reaction was that it looked cartoony and and I would give my honest opinion about npot liking it -I promised publisher Olivier Cadic I would do that. So I sat back and started reading book 1 and thought “interesting” and after that I got hooked.

This series has come up with some truly disturbing stories, twists and turns and the same applies with this volume. The colours by Usagi look lovely and compliment the art perfectly. As for the story…the fact that I got hooked should answer any questions regarding that!

The only question is how long is the run because I want to get to the answer over WHAT happened!!!

Cinebook the 9th Art: ISLANDIA 3 - THE LEGACY OF THE SORCERER

PAPERBACK
Author: Marc Vedrines
Age: 12 years and up
Size: 21.7 x 28.7 cm
Number of pages: 52 colour pages
Publication: September 2020

ISBN: 9781849184526
£8.99 inc. VAT

Jacques is dead, burned at the stake for sorcery by terrified villagers. The truth, however, is that Jacques never existed, and was merely the reincarnation of all-powerful Icelandic sorcerer Grimu. His soul, freed at the moment of his second death, has possessed the local magistrate, and his thirst for vengeance makes him commit terrible deeds. The island’s authorities are after him, though, and far worse than that: God himself has turned his eye towards the man who defies him …

I know that I have written that I have a problem with the face drawing in this series but I guess that is the artist’s style and he draws how he draws to tell a story. I’m no John Byrne so I’ll shut up. What I go by is the story and visuals and with this volume they work well together. So well that I had to re-read the last few pages a couple times -it’s a cracking ending!!

Out of the series so far this one hooked me early and that was it. Vedrines pulled this off with some colour assist from Laetitia Schwendimann. Great fun.

Jason McLane, a.k.a. XIII, seems to have finally accepted his true destiny. Tired of fighting the powerful elite who control the world, he has apparently joined them. Of course, he supposedly did so on orders from General Wolf, so as to bring down the sinister Mayflower Foundation at last, but … what if the temptation of power proved too strong? Janet Fitzsimmons, the Foundation’s president, too beautiful? Or the price of integrity too steep for him … or his friends?

I’m going to need to check my bookshelf as I’m sure I’m missing some of the last few issues of this run.

The continuing satory of XIII has been something I am in two minds about since the original team of Vance & Van Hamme brought it to what seemed a natural conclusdion. GHowever, the stories are still good and the art great. So I guess this is a “go with the flow” type situation  Intrigue. Feisty tough female characters and a good plotline that leads to that final panel….the squeezing of that trigger….the bullet cutting through the air…

XIII is obviously a very popular European comic album series and it rated a continuation. If the books were no good and they never sold they wouldn’t rate an English language version. What do I know -I like reading comics (and books about compressed dark matter physics)!

Always recommended.

Cinebook the 9th Art: Wyoming Doll

PAPERBACK
Author: Franz
Age: 12 years and up
Size: 18.4 x 25.7 cm
Number of pages: 68 colour pages

ISBN: 9781849184502IN STOCK

Publication: July 2020

Two families en route to Wyoming. An ambush by Crow warriors. A massacre – and two little girls missing. Logan, a young man who served as scout to the small convoy, brings the only other survivor, old Giuseppe, back to civilisation, and makes him a promise: he’ll find the girls. Meanwhile, Salmon Leap, a young Lakota warrior turned away by the father of the woman he loves, seeks a glorious death – and finds Sharon, one of the two girls …

It starts with an Indian (Native American) attack on some European immigrants out to make a life for themselves and two of the youngesyt, two girls, are taken. This is not just a “cowboys and Indians” yarn involving a search to rescue the girls but the story of two young men -one who has grown to love the West and wants to live freely while the other wants to become a warrior of legend. Somehow…both bond.

At times brutal but if you love the Western genre this one ought to satisfy you. A one shot well worth your time!

Cinebook the 9th Art: THE REGIMENT – THE TRUE STORY OF THE SAS BOOK 2

 PAPERBACK

Authors: Vincent Brugeas; illustrated by Thomas Legrain
Age: 15 years and up
Size: 18.4 x 25.7 cm
Number of pages: 56 colour pages
Publication: August 2020

ISBN: 9781849184953
£8.99 inc. VAT

After the disaster that was their first mission, the SAS refused to give up, and their second wave of raids proved a powerful validation of the concept behind their unit. Unfortunately, they still have many enemies at headquarters, and now they must capitalise on their success. While they lack neither daring nor imagination, they will have to contend with an enemy who knows how to adapt, and learn to live with the terrible human cost of the war …

The Regiment - The True Story of the SAS Book 2

Uniforms, equipment -all look spot on. The art is lovely and the colours add more to the scenes so this is a treat fior the eyes and if you like war comics then this is for you. Action mixed in with history -though some might mention that certain characters get too good a portrayal. Hopefully we don’t get to see the bloated, blackened tongues of a trooper lost in the desert drinking his owen urine!

Book 1 was a good, solid read so is book 2. Only thing missing is little Johnny Mills, Harry Andrews and Dirk Bogarde!

Maaki: Origins and the Book!

Yes, the book is STILL available.  Also, I was surprised to find that the Art Wanted page had 5, 331 views and 14 comments -mostly from female artists who appreciated Maakika.

Here are some comments:

"i said in another post that these make me think of some hinted at mythology. you should do a book of these with just title s to hint at things so we can read them and let our mind run wild!"

"Seriously, these are the best things you do and you should concentrate making more or using them as a design project (T-shirts, posters whatever). Clean 'em up just a little and they'd be incredible."

"interesting.. kind of tribal... - the shapes down the left hand side, do they symbolise the moon phases, by any chance? :)"

"These Maakika pieces are wonderful Terry!! I find them really fasinating."

"So charming! A real treasure!"

"very cool"

Pity that none of the art was ever purchased -and neither has a single copy of the book.  Artists really do need support you know.

Whenever I try to explain to someone the origins of The Maakika I get odd looks. I have no idea why, unless the people I'm explaining this to have no artistic minds and have never known a fevered mind!

However, the story I told on the original Maakika Art site in 2008 is factual. These pieces have been called some of the best work I've done -my comic work getting swiftly dismissed! I'm also told, though I never saw it that way myself until I went through all the pieces again, that the pieces seem to form a type of mythology or at least hint at one.  I'll let YOU decide.

The Origins
"What is Maakika Art?"  I get asked that a great deal and to be honest it is a very brief story!

In 2006 I had a serious respiratory infection.  It came and went but,in 2007,it came back with a vengeance over several months and with complications I thought it would see me shift this mortal coil -and I am NOT joking!

Around May, 2007, it got really bad.  Then, suddenly, pouring with sweat, while seated on a bus, my mind started getting a rush of images -maybe 50-60.  I got home exhausted but I sat down and began to draw.  Honestly, at 50 years of age I had drawn many things but these new images were so out of my usual frame of image reference that I was stumped.

I drew a few, sat back and thought "What the bloody hell have I drawn?!" Almost instantly the word "Maakika" [pronounced "Mah-kee-kah"] came into my head.  At the same time I got the definition "solid black and white art under guidance from the Maakika".  Ahh, a fevered mind -and no drugs involved!

I've searched the word on the internet, in books and anywhere else I can but it seems not to exist. I cannot find anything similar.

And with each came a title or description.

So,a divine gift from the Maakika pantheon seems credible!

And lucky.

The original images are all 21x29cms and though I've not parted with the first "inspired" drawings which look crude to my eye, several were sold for between £150-£300 each.

I still have the original images in my mind [they won't shift!] but I've been inspired to work on larger images [60x42cms].

So,if you have any questions or comments get in touch!

And remember:only one person does Maakika art -me (and I have absolutely no idea what's coming next!)

According to  one review:

By J Stransky

"Unique and eye catching. It is equal parts disturbing and wonderful. I've cut a few out and put them in frames on the wall in my work room. They are, I tell you, really quite though provoking. Recommended to someone with an interest in primitive art or hypnosis-state painting. Look at these images deeply for a while, they will seep into your soul."

W-G-A-F?

Yes. The Views counter has gone back down twice. It seems that when 4 million is reached Blogger does something but wgaf?

Some 8,452 posts (I deleted 1,000 yesterday) since I moved CBO to Blogger in 2012. I had intended comic related videoes and extra big as well as Mega posts this year but, you know, I've been asking for 10 years for any out of the millions (actual views 6.5 million) of regulars who come to CBO to support it in some way. Buy a book from the store -you get something and I get something. No. Donate...no.

Really, I'm just tired of seeing people steal original images and posts and using them as 'their' own work. Same as the millions who illegally downloaded my Eros books ("if we like it we'll buy it...after stealing money from you and the artists involved" liars and thieves).

I've been winding down CBO this year and that's it

I've seen people rant and rave other creating stuff that gets hundreds or thousands of views but no support. That's the internet. I've opted out so let's see how you find things to amuse you. Do not expect much and this year, first time since CBO was set up online in 1995, there will be no Christmas greetings. Who cares?

So I gaveenough warnings.  The behind the scenes scandals going on at DC would have been a nice post but not any more.

What you see here is what you see. My time now is precious and I am not wasting any of it.

Cinebook the 9th Art: Largo Winch 18 -Scarlet Sails

PAPERBACK
Authors: Philippe Francq & Eric Giacometti
Age: 15 years and up
Size: 18.4 x 25.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Publication: July 2020

ISBN: 9781849185400

Wrongly accused of causing the recent stock market crash, Largo is in trouble. His attempt to find electronic proof of some external manipulation ends in disaster, and in the meantime the deeds to the entire group have been stolen. The body count keeps rising, and a suspicious guardian angel with golden hair is keeping a close eye on him. Largo will have to go to Saint Petersburg to unravel the multiple layers of this mystery and prove his innocence.

Ahh. Now this cheers me up. This continues the story started by Van Hamme Crossing Paths and 20 Seconds and then continued by Eric Giacometti with Morning Star. Are we all up to date?

Lovely colours and art and a cracking good story in which we see Winch getting even more James Bondish than before -he even has a Russian sidekick (not Catherine Bach but Ksenia Naevna). Incredible scenes and action and head-to-head talking that makes this book end far to quickly. Bloody lovely!

Cinebook the 9th Art: Distant Worlds 5

PAPERBACK
Authors: LEO
Age: 15 years and up
Size: 18.4 x 25.7 cm
Number of pages: 48 colour pages
Publication: November 2020

ISBN: 9781849183857

The Stepanerks, those strange aliens who sometimes mingle with Humans, have contacted another, as yet undiscovered, alien species that has been guarding Altair for centuries. Those guardians want to forcefully evict Humans, who are doing terrible damage to the ecosystem. But Paul, unwitting ‘guest’ at their meeting, defended Humanity’s right to a second chance. It now falls to him to convince the Human colonial authorities to change everyone’s behaviour….

I am assuming that vol. 5 (this one) is the last book. Look at that cover. Catches the eye and you start wanting to read it -no “going for a casual stroll on our beastie” here.

Paul takes the big guy to Earth and there isa lot going on including Paul finding out his old girlfriend has moved on. Oh, and a “bit of a scuffle” with land pirates in which we see Stepanerk do his best try-out for The Avengers (kidding). Also the “Hello, Humans” press conference. Ahem. Action, story and lovely art by icar. All wrapped up in a tidy ending so I can sit down and read 1-5 again.

Cool.

Cinebook the 9th Art: Return To Aldebaran 2

PAPERBACK
Authors: LEO
Age: 15 years and up
Size: 18.4 x 25.7 cm
Number of pages: 64 colour pages

ISBN: 9781849185417

£9.99

Kim’s team has travelled through the quantum gate inside the mysterious cube, and begun exploring the planet on the other side, but soon the expedition loses a member: Marie vanishes, abducted by an unknown human. Her teammates will do anything in their power to find her, but they lack resources, and Kim returns to Aldebaran to obtain some. Unfortunately, the political situation on her home planet is quickly deteriorating, and the terrorists are still bent on harming her and her work.

I NEVER thought that I would write it but I read this and the spark was gone. I’m not sure why since the art has not changed and the story is still there…perhaps it is because the story seems to be using the same “We’re here. We can’t go home. Alien creatures are about to attack us. Someone rescues us” trope?

The fact that there does not seem to be any set end to series is disappointing because (remember I was reading this at 02:00 hrs) I sat here and thought “This could go on forever”. As a reader I cannot keep investing my time into a series that may just be renamed “Life on Aldebaran” and we start again. That is my opinion and I write this knowing that some people love this series. Maybe 2020 is messing me up.

I think that there is a big problem when it comes to Cinebook and that is that they are friendly and informative at events -far better than most) but there is a lack of online communication with readers and most of us are stuck at home and there are no UK events set for 2021 yet. Remember how Marvel and other companies had a “What’s new and upcoming” page and they would tell you that “This is a 6 issue series” blah blah blah? THAT is what Cinebook needs. “Two volumes published to date” but HOW many volumes are there?

Just saying as a comic reader of 50 odd years (I sometimes feel I should have gotten a life)

It's Started

I asked friends to keep a look out for me and thrre sent me photos from London, New York and Moscow -I'm waiting for some photos from Hong Kong and Australia as they show the same thing
