NEW COMIC BOOKS RELEASING SEPTEMBER 30th 2020 DC & MARVEL COMICS PREVIEW...

‘Supergirl’ To End With Upcoming Season 6

Supergirl will be taking her last flight. The CW and producers Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions just announced that the drama series starring Melissa Benoist will conclude with the upcoming sixth season, set for premiere on the CW in 2021. It is the second series from the CW’s DC Arrowverse to come to an end following Arrow, which wrapped its eight-year run last season.

Production on all 2020-21 broadcast series was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Supergirl had been targeting a later start of production to accommodate the pregnancy of star Benoist. I hear the series is slated to begin filming in Vancouver next week, pending a deal with the local unions to comply with SAG’s testing guidelines, which has been a sticking point for a number of Hollywood productions there. The series would initially be filming around Benoist who would join the production later, I have heard.

Between the delays and Supergirl’s downward ratings trajectory, I hear the producers, the studio, the network and Benoist came to a decision that it was better to end the show with a longer final season.

The creative team has started developing the storylines for the final 20 episodes. The order is expected to be longer than most broadcast series this coming season, including the CW scripted shows, which will be launching in January and beyond.

As it keeps adding new series every season, the CW also has been retiring veterans. It ended three established series in each of the last two seasons, including Arrow, Supernatural and The 100 this past season. (Because of the pandemic, Supernatural‘s final season stretched to this fall.) The network, which traditionally gives its long-running series a proper farewell by announcing their final seasons ahead of time, will likely reveal more shows coming to an end after the upcoming season in the coming weeks.

Supergirl, starring Benoist in the title role, debuted in October 2015 on CBS before joining The CW lineup for Season 2 in October 2016. The most recent Season 5 also starred Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair and David Harewood, with special guest star Jon Cryer.

In Season 5, Supergirl faced threats, both new and ancient. National City became enthralled with addictive virtual reality technologies created by CatCo’s charming-but-secretive new owner Andrea Rojas (Gonzalo), which enable people to bury their heads in the proverbial sand. As Kara used the power of the press to try to expose the danger, she was forced to contend with challenges put up by rival reporter William Dey (Nair), renegade Martian Malefic J’onzz (Phil LaMarr), a shadowy organization called Leviathan, and the shocking return of Lex Luthor (Cryer) who, in addition to his plot for world domination, sought to claim the soul of Supergirl’s best friend — and his sister — Lena.

Based on characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Supergirl is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller and Rob Wright.

I Like Making Appeals

I do so 'love' making appeals that never get responses!😃😃

ahem. Here comes another and I do wish the collectors of old comics who visit this blog would respond. I have a story header (for some years on disc) from a serial called The Blue Domino that was running in Merry & Bright in, if I recall correctly, the 1930s?

Does anyone have scans of this or know a source (online) for this comic?

Thank You (if you like you can contact me by PM on the Face Book CBO)

The Tammy and Jinty Special 2020 -What Did I Think?

Just to prove that I do support new UK comics I received my copy of the Tammy and Jinty Special 2020 yesterday. I was shocked because it arrived so quickly!

I am NOT going to review it because the rule was set down a couple decades ago that I do not review books I buy. Only books sent are reviewed.

But let me say this: it is a quality product from paper to printing. Also Yishan Li's artwork is as fabulous as ever and made buying a copy a must.  Elkys Nova's artwork on the Cat Girl was also good. Great read all round.

I Do NOT Have Sketch Books. I Have Doodle Pads!

In one of my photos of Room Oblivion, someone saw the stack of sketch books on my table. I think I have about 10? There seemed to be the impression that these books must contain wonderful illustrations or sketches.

No.

I know people who keep sketch books like that but IO do not. Never have. A costume -I draw a male or female figure and outline the costume details on that. Not even tidy anatomy. My sketch books were kept for a reason.

Before my hands became more useless and I had to stop trying to keep notes (I have a lot  of note books covering comics and other stuff). I also had to stop "doodling". I used to carry a sketch book with me in the garden, going to the shops or, as was necessary, next to where I slept. All day I would get an image or idea and quickly doodle down details. At night I could fill pages. One page might be an idea for a 20pp or even lengthier series. Now my hands forbid doing this all day and my eyes are in collusion with said hands.

Looking through just two of the books last night there were enough ideas and stories to keep a small company going for a year -fair to say I am not going to be completing all of those! I have a blue A5 binder (all my sketch pads are around A5 size) that contains all the sketches and ideas for Fleetway projects. Fun and bad memories combined.

Here are a few images of people seen in the background (in Bristol) as well as some of the inhabitants of a non existent house on a non existent road in Bristol.

There is a "Bovine Youth" tackling an alien invader's...nose

One doodle made it as the splash page (redrawn obviously) to The Master Plan of Lord Sebastian Perish in Adventure (vol. 1).

And I did a lot of sketching for the Dutch Wars where Nom took possession of the first of the Ten Dancing Monkey necklaces. I did a few colour images of battle damaged men...which were never used.

So you see -nothing sensational. Just fun quick doodles for stories and strips. Doodles. Oh, there was this one time in 1999 -all these are from that year- when I had to "sell myself" to a publisher. If they like the story and idea WTF does it matter about my "philosophy behind projects" is...if any?
02:40 hrs....says it all really!

I Wonder About the Penny Wonder

I know that there are a good few readers of this blog out there who are collectors of old British Boys Papers and comics. I know because a few belonged to my old Yahoo groups and some had large collections.

I have only ever seen one rather tatty copy of The Penny Wonder and I've always wanted to read more because it was one publication my grandfather used to refer to.

So, and I know I'm batting an average of 100% requests and 100% no responses, if anyone out there has any scans could they let me know?

Most with memories of these publications are now gone and it's a shame to see these publications become forgotten.

Thanks in advance.

Comic & Book Publishers, Action Figure Companies & Other Comic Related Items

These are the viewing figures I see daily but no one wants to help keep CBO going? No one wants to buy books?

Are there no publishers, action figure companies or anyone with comic associated items who think that is a good audience to have their products put in front of or reviewed?

And this is a quiet Sunday.

I must be missing something!
