The unique Maakika Art style of
Terry Hooper-Scharf has raised more than a few eye-brows and is a
complete change from his work as one of the UKs top graphic novel
illustrators. Pages are to be displayed at the Alternative Press Pop Up! Gallery in London and also displayed this November in Bristol.
Copies will be on sale, along with prints and some postcards at the BCP Book Fair & Comic Expo in Bristol this November.
Peter Hughes and myself were greatly admiring your Maakika art book this morning. Peter, having lived and worked in Africa is especially keen and would love to know more regarding your influences. Will purchase a copy myself ASAP, other purchases of materials and medic stuff predominate at present, the latter annoyingly.
ReplyDeleteThere is no influence. The story of "How" on the blog is really HOW. Looked up the name Maakika -nothing. Art styles including African -nothing. This is from my brain and there are plenty more of these.
ReplyDeleteI wish you had heard Peter gushing praise on Saturday morning. Suffice to say, he thinks the drawings are wonderful and reminded him of his time in Benin when the locals said of the spirits that existed beyond the chain link fencing and the angry monkeys and of the man that put a curse on him and sent him on a fast track plane back to England and a tropical disease hospital with a nasty red weal around his neck.
