Anthony Carrigan, 40, has been cast at the DC hero Metamorpho in the upcoming film Superman: Legacy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Slated to premiere on July 11, 2025, the Barry star will join David CorensweThe news is fresh off of the Fatherhood's Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as NoHo Hank in the HBO series Barry.
It's the third time he's been nominated in the same Emmy category for his Barry role.
Despite the critical acclaim the actor has received for his work over the years, he admitted to Deadline that he was 'gobsmacked' when he learned that he was cast in Superman: Legacy.
Although Superman: Legacy will be the Massachusetts-born actor's first time playing a superhero on screen, he did previously have a multi-episode arc on Gotham.
Metamorpho (Rex Mason) is a founding member of the Outsiders, and has also joined multiple incarnations of the Justice League
Anthony also had a role in the Netflix film Fatherhood, opposite Kevin Hart.
That wasn't the Emmy nominated TV star's only movie role, having also appeared in the comedy Bill And Ted Face The Music back in 2020.
The Killer Whales star had nothing but praise for James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios and the director of Superman: Legacy. 'I think [Superman: Legacy] has the potential to just really knock everyone’s socks off, and with James Gun at the helm, I think it’s just going to be so much fun,' Anthony said.
He added that he thought that his Superman: Legacy casting was an 'exciting new chapter' for his career after Barry concluded on HBO.
'[And it will be] such an exciting new chapter for DC,' the Hard Disk star proclaimed.
The DC star said he discovered a relatable aspect of his Superman: Legacy character that he didn't initially expect.
I remember Metamorppho from a Brave and the Bold DC comic with Batman, of course. Seemed like a sympathetic character... and with current CGI effects it could be a lot of fun !
ReplyDeleteYes. As with Aquaman what attracted me to the characters was Fradon's art -a very distinctive style. Hey they can put the Doom Patrol on TV and add all the effects then metamorpho ought to be easy!
