Isn't That Just A Fluke?"

 

No, yesterday's stats were not a "fluke". Blogger keeps deleting numbers on the home page views counter when it gets to a certain number but last time I looked at the dashboard there had been 8 million views.

It's only 1328hrs UK time but CBO has a world wide audience so that does not really matter as today's stats show.

"rather plain post without lots of images"

 

I was asked why I do not scan or even photograph internal pages of books sent in for review if the publisher has none online.

This is a question I have dealt with many times. Firstly, I post less original material from myself to keep the thousands of CBO readers each day amused. The reason is simple. For years I have noted that I cannot afford the time to keep producing more Mega posts or original content. A post that needs research as well as images and editing can take up to five hours. The mega posts each took around 8 hours. A full day's work.

I think there were three comments on the megaposts out of the many thousands of readers who viewed them. To put that into perspective how many people -bloggers and even You Tubers- do you think stole the original material and posted as their own or took huge chunks and re-arranged them badly to be "their" original work? I'll tell you: 25

Yes, 25 people stole my work but only 3 readers bothered commenting -but the thieves blogs got many comments congratulating them on the work etc. Why would I want to put that much work and effort into posts that get ripped off and no comments?

CBO gets no support of any kind. Ten years ago, at the suggestion of two people, I added a PayPal donation box. Last time I looked it was full of internet dust. Not a penny. Yet up to 8000 + people regularly view CBO.

No funding means that I am working from a cranky old computer that I have had to repair so many times I think that it would be kinder to put it out of its misery. It goes then CBO is in internet limbo.

Take photos of pages. I do not have a camera and cannot afford one so that puts that one to rest.

My A3 and A4 scanner are gone. If they were not then seven books would have been published between July and now. And as with the computer and camera I do not have the cash to replace any of them.

I write this knowing that no one really cares because no one has for over ten years 😂😂😂😂 but I do mention it to make a point. If I was attacking "Woke" people or anyone else then that gets views and more importantly support. Hey, I could go the route of posting scantilly clad women or even go Private and fill the post with soft porn -THAT gets a lot of support.

So, please, do not bother complaining because I do not care because you do not care. 

Reviews get the images I can find and that is an end to it.

Now back to reading so I can produce another "rather plain post without lots of images".

Read that, Marvel Comics? No killing off the character Ka-Zar to then "bring him back" which, honestly is so passé and is like Kevin (I run out of ideas all thetime) Smith writing the He Man animated series and smirking and bragging how he never just killed He-Man once but twice.  Here jungle Lord Tanka is used effectively to make a group gell together and what a group!

Three quarters of this book is in full colour and the last quarter is black and white. The colour  artwork is great but the b&w work stands out to me -which may be down to my mainly working in that medium. As a whole though the mix works and if Tanka is who keeps the characters united then Lofficier is the writer who makes it all gell because he knows and has developed the characters over the years -just as Roy thomas knew the DC and Marvel Golden Age characters and how to use them.

I did write before that the Strangers series was like The Avengers comic but I realised my mistake. Reading through them again it is like a mix of The Avengers and The Defenders of the Bronze age and that, as many old time comic fans will know was THE creative and most loved era in Marvel Comics. 

I hope more peopledo get into Hexagon as the amount of work put in by Lofficier and the creators deserves more recognition.

If you are a real comic fan then you will know what "more bang for your buck!" means (oh, behave). Comics used to featuring solo characters or duos and rarely you might have a cameo by a more popular character to boost sales or because someone in editorial thought "Why the heck not?" 

Back in the early 1960s, Radio City Comics (Archie) had old Goldn Age characters guest in The Fly or Fly-Man -in later issues Fly-Girl had appeared. Eventually this led to The Mighty Crusaders title and when Stan and Jack over at Marvel thought "Let's bring our top guys together" we ended up with The Mighty Avengers and at DC Comics we got the Justice League of America. Okay, some of the characterisation was not great but you had all of these group comics featuring a team of heroes rather than a solo character book.  We loved them.

All of those characters were established in what became known as the Marvel, Archie and DC "universes".  So fairly easy to bring together and get a story rolling. So what about a whole catalogue of characters from time and space and Earth who had no connection and had never met before?   What Lofficier has done is build a Hexagon Universe and create links  and storylines that bring heroes -Strangers- together and keeps the pace and characterisation flowing. If you have one person doing the writing and who knows the characters and the directions he wants yto take them in then it can be fun (look at Roy Thomas's All Star Squadron and The Invaders).

This book starts pulling the threads together and there is some gorgeous colour work to enhance the artwork which all took me back to finding those Marvel team books when I was an unbearded youngster (beard only grew when I got to 10).

If you like team book, action and good art then why are you not buying Strangers yet? This cheered me up on a dull Saturday morning.
