EXpo EXclusive Screening – The 99
We are hyper excited to announce an exclusive screening of the new international animated series of The 99 by Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa (a series recently given a special mention by US President Obama at the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship held in Washington)
From The 99 website: Teshkeel Media Group was formed in 2004. It’s business and social objectives were to create exciting animated television programs for young families and children throughout the world. The idea was to offer new role models of superheroes born of Middle East history and Islamic archetypes that possess values shared by the entire world.
THE 99 are those young role models.
Eventually, there will be one from each of ninety-nine countries. They are roughly split between boys and girls. Each of THE 99 possesses a certain gemstone that has imbued in it a special power. While each of our heroes has their own power, each of their powers is enhanced by working in teams of three. Our characters must decide which three heroes and sets of powers are best suited to solve the problem at hand. It is through this process that the values of tolerance and diversity become one of THE 99’s most valuable continuing story themes.
Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa, the creator of THE 99 saw a need for new role models that children from China to Chad to Canada could relate to as their own without the parochial influence of any nation, religion or individual.
For its entry to the animated television world, Teshkeel Media Group first launched THE 99 in a traditional comic book series. By 2011, THE 99 team had flourished and partnered with DC Comics’ Justice League of American standing cape to shoulder with the likes of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman to defeat the friends of evil.
Soon THE 99 will appear on television screens throughout the world. With its production partner, Endemol UK, the world’s largest syndicator of television programs, twenty-six episodes of THE 99 animated television series are reaching completion. Another twenty-six have been commissioned.
Independent investors and financial institutions from the Middle East, Europe and the United States have financed this huge investment.
You can see a trailer for the 1st season on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnfY5BLsRBw
The Official website for the comic book series is: http://www.the99.org/
We will be screening the episode at 12:00 on the Saturday in the Main venue and then again in the evening at 19.00 in the Ramada Hotel (free entry to all)

Comic Conventions The Comic Conventions website was started out of sheer frustration in 2010. There seemed to be nowhere that had an easy to follow, at a glance central listing of all the UK conventions throughout the calendar year; And something had to be done about it. The site lay relatively dormant up until October 2011 when Dom joined the fold and got to work expanding and promoting the site. In came interviews, news, reviews and photos of the different events. Exclusives such as bringing Ebas to the UK for the London Super Comic Con and an interview with Adam Hughes only made the site more popular. Ever keen to expand, the site welcomed Patrick (Custard Trout) to the journalistic fold adding his unique writing skills and Jedi philosophy to the existing skillset. Now getting in excess of 5,000 hits a month and ever climbing, we are attending the conventions as exhibitors to help promote our labour of love. If you are about, and you like what we are doing, come see us and help ‘spread the word’ |

The two part debut story The Company of Angels will available in its entirety at Bristol and co-creators Matt Warner and Mark Adams will be there to sign copies as will Faith Healer artist Tony Emson. Other titles include Kiss Me Deadly, which follows the bloody adventures of Dublin vampire hunter Dawn Keenan. Described as Buffy meets the Punisher with a dash of The Commitments, Kiss Me Deadly is for comic fans who like violent action and expletives undeleted. Finally, Hellbound’s latest one shot will be launched at Bristol. Mandy and the Monster follows the eponymous heroine as she investigates a mystery at her old primary school. The story is written by Matt Warner with art by amazing Swedish horror artist Anna Pennlund. There will be tentacles. |
