Apologies to any normal people out there re that last post. Having to deal with arse-wits and deleting comments because people have had half their brains removed is getting very tedious.

I see myself as putting this blog out for comickers in the US and around the world rather than anyone in the UK.  Only the morons who helped destroy what comics 'industry' we had seem to comment.  I wish some more of those with brains who are comic fans would comment now and then.

Physical pain + internet = violent tendencies.

Bulgaria and Romania appear to be viewing CBO a lot and I tried to see if there was anything on comics from those two countries.  A couple of sites (in Bulgarian and Romanian) but nothing much visual -there is a link to ComixBG on the blog roll but it was last up-dated 7 months ago. If any Bulgarian or Romanian publishers are out there and see this -I have comics you can publish under license! (one day that line will get a response).

There are so many countries from which people view CBO and I try -try- to find something out about comics there.  Generally information is rather sparse or there do not appear to be many comics.  I have comics publishers can use under license......

I have decided that, should I find the right Bristol location for a comic mart (I am looking at one venue) then it will be comic traders.  A few tables will be put aside for self publishers but it is strictly first come-first get a table.  None of the fake Ebay style table bids that are fixed so that friends get the tables.  Paul Ashley Brown has a table. The intention is also to have a display of art pages because that might encourage a few creative types but should also give the punters something to look at.  It's all very basic and, as they like to say in business, "fluid" at the moment but we will see.

And thank you to the people who have been positive about the project on social media.

Comic fans should be having fun and talking to each other. Fun.  If you are into comics don't just ignore something because it is in a language you don't understand -check out the artwork.

As an end note there is a very strong rumour that if Brexit goes ahead and article 50 is set in motion (don't even get me started) Cinebook The 9th Art will not be based in the UK. This is based on talking to people who have attended meetings held by Cinebook's publisher who has repeated several times "You can move your business back to France. We all can".  As I do not rate even a brief response from said publisher, I can only assume this is true.

German Comic Events, Foreign Comics and a bit more (I'm bored)

Yes, CBO total views up to tonight stands at 2, 382, 189 while Google+ view have shot up to 3, 116, 670 and I am aware that views from feeds to other sites total way past that.

Here is the thing, though. All these figures are just a confusion to me. Also, I don't really want to spend time checking them all because I'm not that obsessed with figures. What I will do from now on is only go by the Google+ and CBO figures.  Those are the "official" ones to me.

Yes, I got bored. I can tell you that the number of countries viewing CBO today stands at (22:50hrs BST) 41.

Not bad.  Just need to get rich now!

I have posted the German videos looking at Erlangen. I have to admit that it looks very impressive and the art displays are cool. This is what a big UK event should look like. One day I'm heading there even if not to sell books.

Comics should interest you even if you do not understand the language they are written in. A good story, drawn well, should explain what is going on to a person holding it -if not the finer aspects of the plot.

Yes, I have Chinese, Russian, Polish, Czech, Finnish, German (lots of) French comics and many others. I'm a comic tart. I love comics. I've wasted 50+ years on them.  I'm beyond saving!

A Bristol Comic Mart

It does not matter whether you are a comic retailer or just a comic collector/fan who sells back issue comics here is the question: if a location could be found for a small, semi regular comic mart would you be interested in hiring a table -cost would depend on cost of location divided up between however many tables?

In fact, I've just set up a Face Book page so that you can either message me there or leave a comment re. if you might be interested in seeing such an event in the city again (the last was in the 1990s).

Here We Go! Here We Go! Here We--where are we going?

I posted the two documentaries yesterday -The Midwest In Panels and The Comic Book Palace- because I think both show something very important that is missing from UK comic book shops. If you are in the UK and cannot work out "what?" well, there you go.

The stores seem to all try to encourage youngsters as well as older artists -even selling, in a number of cases, Small Press comics -though they are not referred to as such. Art pinned up in stores by kids and older customers.  Excellent.  Even in some cases far more kid friendly comic areas, though that requires a lot more space than some comic shops have in the UK.

With The Midwest In Panels we see store owners making points I've been making for years such as Free Comic Book Day is only free to the customers who grab the comics because stores have to pay for them -and it is simply to promote the comic company product. The Halloween Free Comic Book Day is the same thing under a different name but, again, store owners under pressure to keep their businesses making money and keep open have to pay for what is comic industry promotional advertising.

The Diamond Distributor monopoly which they all think is bad -there are a couple exceptions including the guy who jumps up and down whenever a company or the distributor has an idea...even if it costs him money.  In the UK a monopoly is supposed to be illegal but, as the owners in this documentary state: who gives a crap -its comics.

There are some very wise words and, in both documentaries, there are some great pieces of sage (and very funny) wisdom -I laughed in a few places which I was not expecting.

2,500+ comic book retailers in the United States.  Now you know why the UK is seen as a not very important outlet.

But I kept thinking "I'm in the wrong country" though the biggest thing that I realised I missed after watching these documentaries was talking to comic fans.  Fans duck into events now, get what they are looking for and go. Back with the old Westminster Comic Marts there were plenty of comic fans to chat to.  Even the UK Comic Art Conventions (UKCAC) saw fans meeting up, chatting and even keeping in touch -and we wrote to each other back then because there was no email -how fecking hard is it to type a comment or send an email: "Liked that item. Thanks!"??

On the other hand there are examples of old style comic fans still going. A couple weeks back a Russian CBO visitor emailed me with a scan of the missing Tarzan #4 I'd been looking for from the 1990s on.  He was missing two issues.  I scanned and sent him those. Yesterday, another Russian visitor sent me a link for a download of the Tarzan (Russian) I had missing but I've the full six issues now anyway. He was still looking for two issues -I had those two issues scanned so a quick email attachment and off they went.  Back came a "Thank You".

Now uploading and sending that email took a couple minutes. Original scanning took longer but that doesn't matter.  Any real comic fan will tell you of the pain, the agony and the utter anguish of a comic series you read and collected that misses one or two issues. Years of searching -still can't find them. I see myself as having administered pain relief!  And, of course, I got to complete the series myself.

Fans in action. Swap scans in this case, chat about them. Thank yous all round.  No nastiness or bitching or name-calling you get on the fake 'fan' sites.   Gives you a buzz.

We just need more small events that are interested in one thing only: back issue comics and maybe a very selective few small pressers.  With Europe seemingly not open for me next year my brain is thinking.....

Hopefully, even if you do not speak the languages, the German comic related videos also gave you a glimpse of how things are going "over there".  I was disappointed to see German TV travelling to France and Belgium to do stories on comic creators rather than giving time to their own comic creators of which there are a good few -I would publicise them but no one sends me German small press or comics these days...sorry, had to wipe a tear from my cheek.

Gene Wilder, the rubbery-faced star of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and comedy classics from Mel Brooks, has died, according to his nephew and his agent. He was 83.

Wilder died Monday at his home in Stamford, Conn.,of complications from Alzheimer's disease, according to a statement from his nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman, issued via Wilder's agent, David Shapira, to USA TODAY.

"It is with indescribable sadness and blues, but with spiritual gratitude for the life lived that I announce the passing of husband, parent, and universal artist Gene Wilder, at his home in Stamford, Conn.," Walker-Pearlman said in the statement.

"It is almost unbearable for us to contemplate our life without him. The cause was complications from Alzheimers Disease with which he co-existed for the last three years. The choice to keep this private was his choice, in talking with us and making a decision as a family."
