Was the movie Independence Day really out in 1996? Jeeeez I am old.
Anyhow, as I wrote in an earlier post, comics, like Hollywood has lost its originality. Remake after remake -I do not think this is being made as an 'action comedy' though.
Variety has the details!
Fox has locked in "Independence Day Resurgence” as the title for Roland Emmerich’s sequel to the 1996 blockbuster.
Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Judd Hirsch, Sela Ward and Charlotte Gainsbourg have also been cast in the sequel, which 20th Century Fox has dated for June 24, 2016 — nearly 20 years after the original was released. Bill Pullman, who played President Thomas J. Whitmore in the original, is returning for the sequel.
Dean Devlin, who produced the original film, is producing with Roland Emmerich and Harald Kloser. Ute Emmerich is the executive producer. The screenplay was written by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt, James A.Woods & Nicolas Wright.
Fox has also released the first photos from the set — one of the Moon Tug spacecraft and another of director Emmerich posing with it.
The story revolves around the nations of Earth having collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet — which comes under attack by the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force.
See the photos below.
