Ahh. Mr Dilworth wondered whether the 3.75 inch Ally Sloper figure I made to stand with the Society for the Suppression of Crime was to be a villain? Nope. If -IF- the story is ever drawn it will explain how he and Dr Syntax are involved.
I would draw Mr Dilworth's memory along a very long and darkened memory lane to this page from Return of the Gods that led into what happened to Mr Sloper Esqr.

Earth’s heroes and crime-fighters are going about their daily tasks –fighting a giant robot controlled by a mad scientist’s brain, attackers both human and mystical -even alien high priests of some mysterious cult and their zombie followers and, of course, a ghost and a young genius lost in time.
Pretty mundane.
But psychics around the world have been sensing something. A "something" that sends feelings of sheer terror through their psyches.
There is a huge alien Mother-ship near the Moon. Undetected by deep-space radar and other instruments, only a few on Earth have sensed it and they cannot penetrate the hull but only feel psychic screams and....worse.
And then it begins: strange orange spheres isolate and chase some of Earth’s heroes who then vanish into thin air –are they dead? An attack by an old foe or foes -?
Black, impenetrable domes cover cities world-wide.
Then it becomes clear to those within the domes what is going on: Alien invasion of Earth!
A war between the Dark Old Gods and the pantheons that followed!
Warriors from Earth’s past having to battle each day and whether they die or not they are back the next day!
No one suspects the driving force behind the events. One single evil guiding events. Events that could cause destruction and chaos throughout the multiverse.
Assaulted on all fronts can Earth’s defenders succeed or will they fail...is this truly the end?
Ally Sloper and Dr Syntax, eh ? Y'know, it's hard to keep up with all the ins and outs... What's important ( like D-Gruppe lost in space ) and what's just a quirk - like Ally becoming an observer of modern Earth even though he must've died long before. Still, as a shandy gaff quaffing observer of life and death, you couldn't get a more qualified guy with his life experiences... But how would someone of Ally's class, life style and decade know Dr Syntax ? Ins and Outs... Conundra upon conundra... Well, isn't that part of the fun of comics ? Take it easy, Terry. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteAhh but he DID 'die'? There was the conversation he had with the Phantom Detective and Mr Mystery -during which he was snatched. So that adds more questions but a reverend gentleman and Mr Sloper Esqr might get on. D-Gruppe lost in space is something I need to get on with -like the characters who went missing at the start of Return -the adventurers and then the British Boys Brigade...and some during Return on Neo Olympus. IF I can actually drag myself to drawing we'll see
