Disney Paid $4 billion For Marvel -Was THAT A Good Deal?

There is a rather "dirty" question asked by Newsarama.  The "Dirty" subject is about money -in particular: was Disney's $4 billion buy out of Marvel worth it?

I know there are -there really are- comic fans out there that refuse to believe Disney owns Marvel let alone pulls the strings.  So I hope they do not let reality encroach too much by reading this!

Anyway, I think it is quite obvious what the answer is but there are lots of facts and $ figures here so check out Newsarama (SPOILER -it WAS!):

  1. Money money money. Nothing quite like the sound. Pity they forgot that you can only build on what you have .... if you break it down; what have you got ? Either something new and improved that you're working on... or a whole lot of nothing..... ummm... scary eyes kid anyone ? ( also that nose pretty much freaks me out, too... whole alternative universes could get sucked in there... )

    1. How do you know that we're not actually in some Ditkoesque alternative universe hidden up a baby's nostril? That would explain a hell of a lot . Just a minute, Moriarty, did you hear thrice times the magic sound? Just in case, drag the comics collection from under the carpet and borrow the 'For Sale' sign from your aged grandmother, pack the swill bags and put the banana skins on ice. This is where we rake in the moolah from the comic collecting Charlies. Now remember, everything older that 2010 is 'rare' and 'vintage' !

  2. Problem is that Marvel has been sold over and over and fallen into the hands of money men over and over. Marvel Comics The Untold Story reveals so much including, that I said at the time but is anyone else alive from that time? Fake reason to push up comic prices -FOR MORE MONEY. They are doing the same now because between Disney and Marvel no printer is going to refuse their steady and lucrative business. All together, Comrade Comickers:
    a-one ...a two....

The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyred dead,
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Look 'round, the Frenchman loves its blaze,
The sturdy German chants its praise,
In Moscow's vaults its hymns are sung
    Chicago swells the surging throng.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

WE'LL KEEP THE RED FLAG FLYING HEEEEEEEEEEERE!
    Freedom for Tooting!

  3. I always said that there must be one former Marvel CEO who got a big paycheck for selling Marvel because at the time it made no sense. This was not Marvel during the 90s when it was bankrupt. This was Marvel who had come out of the darkness, who had defeated the dragon and was starting to make its own movies.

Two years down the line they would have given Disney some serious competition. But instead they sold the fans out to Disney so this was clearly a money thing. And the price for what Marvel went was ridiculous. This was peanuts for such a big company. So, yes, the only reason for selling the company at that moment ? Somebody wanted that big paycheck and was stupid enough not to know how much money he flushed down the toilet.

My only satisfaction is that that stupid Arschloch could have gotten ten times as much money and doesn´t know it. Disney had that kind of money.

And pardon my french ... I mean german.

  4. Tooting ? Anyway. Yeah. There once was a time -not so long ago - that Disney was in deep financial trouble... what would have happened if Marvel had bought out Disney ? Who knows.
Anyway - comics are comics - and independent comics are independent comics - we can do what we want and enjoy to do. Isn't that, in so many ways, the real joy of comics creating ? We can do what we want. There's a universe of possiblities right there at our fingertips. Let's have fun... ever if it only ever exists sucked up into the twilight zone of some gianormous baby's nostril ( now, I think, refered to as a 'Recessed Ditkoverse of Darkness' ). Anyway. Outta here.

    1. As Will Eisner's comic strip avatar stated, in conversation with Denis Kitchen's, within the pages of The Spirit magazine; " It's stimulating to be working where there are few restrictions on subject matter . . . the freedom is challenging!". "The Recessed Ditkoverse Of Darkness" wherein lurks the Dread Dormammu and his equally potent sister Umar, "Hear me, O' Lords Of The Tempests . .of Cosmic Thunder, let us now exit the dark dimensions of this baby's nostril and set forth on multi-dimensional conquest! No, by the ancient gods of the Jatravartid, Daddy's administering the grubby handkerchief!

    2. Did you ever watch Citizen Smith, Monsieur Stransky? Power to the people. Robert Lindsay and stuff. Maybe you had more control over the television channels than I did.

    1. Yes, Citizen Smith, Robert Lindsay. But not viewing in our household. I can't say further unfortunately because, never having watched it, I have no idea as to whether I would have liked it or not. I will just state that, in my defence and in order to keep the peace, I didn't have overall control of the television set in the early to late evening and I get a feeling that Citizen Smith was 8:00-8:30ish or was it later after the news? Basically I would sneak down, like a naughty boy, to watch anything else, once you know who had gone to bed and as long as I was careful with the sound, her hearing difficulty meant that I had undisturbed viewing. My own somewhat humble explanation over.

    1. Sorry, we were just off exploring a different universe - a fun universe? - one that doesn't involve that really nice guy 'good ol' Unca Walt and that other smiling one.
