Marvel Announces 45 -yes, 45- New Titles and everyone cheers..but it is KILLING comics!

I think the headline on Comic Book.Com says it all:

 Marvel Announces 45 All-New All-Different Series

Yes, 45 new comic series. I'm not really sure whether I need to say this but with comics already struggling and achieving not even cover price value just what good are 45 new first issues going to do? Oh, "morons all buy first issues -they're the ones pull in the cash!"

No, no,no, no no, no.  The whole Secret Wars was a con trick.  I wrote so.  It was going to sort out continuity and make a fresher Marvel with nothing old surviving from the 1963 Marvel.  Sorry, how many Avenger titles and Avengers linked titles?

I have to say movie and TV franchise based comics do well here.  This is just way too much.  It's like loading up a tipper truck with as many titles as you can and dumping them in a shop doorway and seeing what happens.

Disney is going for, hoped-for, fast bucks and screw the fans and comic industry.  DC is rumoured to be planning something similar but I hope not.  As it is the Disney empire is going to oversee the collapse of comics and it will not care so long as the movies make money.

Awful.  And rather than asking about the effects of this glut of titles, comic book sites -almost as one- are simply asking: "Which titles are you excited about?

I guess if you are just fan-boys pushing PR from Marvel (or DC) you don't really give a feck what shit they are feeding you.  Questions should be getting asked but they just aren't.  It's just the usual cheer of "Hooray! Marvel Disney are ripping us off again!"

50 years a Marvelite and True Believer.  I see this shit and I see.....nothing.

  1. Am I weird because these books don´t look interesting to me ? The stories have left me cold for the last two years and there´s not one artist among the bunch for whom I would pay. It looks like Carlos Pacheco´s SQUADRON SINISTER will be the last Marvel ..... I mean Disney book for me.

  2. Good great grief! The uber-capitalist ideal that more is better. The disease called 'Profiteer's Drool'.

  3. Well, even the X-Men become the Scooby Gang cover looks lifeless. We know it will all change as soon as Disney decides it wants more money so we'll get MORE first issues. Why should I invest any time or money or put any emotion into comics that have a character/lifespan of...maybe...twenty issues before all change? And look at the books -movies =$ so make the movie character into a comic to =SSSSSS......Quicksilver doesn't get his own comic? Wow. Missed one there. Seriously, this is just deadweight but while idiots keep buying to "look cool" or being so moronic they think these are their pension fund (still????) the cesspit will be churned up. I almost scrapped this post because it was so monotonous and lifeless. Comic implosion on its way.

    1. They've hit a rut, basically covers have been formulaic and have sold. no need to be more adventurous. When myself and Bib did wraparounds for Braque, we would always try and think Eisner and his Spirit covers. Also his stories/characters were more flexible and laced with humour - forget the awful Frank Miller film. There is just something deadening, mentally, about the stuff that Marvel and DC dole out, and have been doling out for years on end.

  7. Ja D -I felt the same way a few years back. Looking at the money I was paying for comics then I really cringe. Now I don't buy them! Thanks, Marvel (and, yes, I used to love going into comic shops!)
Sanchez: It is VERY obvious, isn't it? Black Widow is popular and been around longer but her toy range is badly limited. Her comic book -non-existent. But the Vision....! And I cannot believe no Loki comic. I give up trying to work out what the Marvel bosses think. More female characters in Independents!
