Hajime Isayama's original manga (pictured above) depicts the battles between humans and the giants who now rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves.
The height of the archetypal colossal Titan in the manga and the television anime was about 60 meters (about 200 feet) tall. But guess what? This is the movies, folks so, the live-action films' colossal Titan will stand 120 meters (about 400 feet or 30 stories) tall — towering over even the 108-meter (350-foot) height of the tallest movie Godzilla ever --which is the monster from Garth Edwards and Legendary Pictures' Godzilla film of this year.
The live-action Attack on Titan films do not employ just CG, but also tokusatsu (special-effects) techniques to create its realistic colossal Titan.
The taglines for the poster read:
The cast includes seven characters that are new to the film versions of the story. Sankei Sports reports that Hasegawa's character Shikishima holds the key to the film's story as "humanity's strongest man."
The films'director, Shinji Higuchi, has confirmed that the project will span two films and stated that, with the supervision of Isayama, the story will be based on the world and characters of the manga, while incorporating new characters and new formidable enemies.
Yuusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, live-action Gantz, Gantz II: Perfect Answer, 20th Century Boys, Gatchaman) is writing the script. Also film critic Tomohiro Machiyama, who is a friend of Isayama, is working on the scripts together with Isayama and Watanabe.
Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion, Royal Space Force - The Wings of Honnêamise, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars) is designing the characters of the live-action film with anime/game designer Takayuki Takeya (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children mecha/costumes/creatures. A fuller list of crew can be found on Anime News.
The first live-action film will open in August, and the second will open in September. As of the 15th volume, the manga has 42 million copies in print. The new poster (and accompanying flyer) will debut in theaters on December 20.
