I got the idea at about 0400 hrs the other morning. I've had the idea before but just backed away from it. But I think this time I need to get organised.
Bristol no longer -thanks to total bad management by the people who took it over- has an annual comic expo. The Small Press events have made it clear that there is no place for a slick bastid like me.
And comic events in the UK seem to have either (1) totally over priced tables so that small sellers are losing money even if they can get a table which brings us to (2) the totally moronic "You won a table" Ebay ass-idea. First comes and books/pays for a table gets the table. Not the same people at every event because there is this sort of unofficial "pals network" and it makes events look stale and "samey".
It just is not good nor healthy for comics.
So, I have yet to sort out a cheap enough and central enough venue but come 2016 I am hoping to organise bi-monthly comic marts like we had in the 1980s-1990s. Bristol or Bath? Not yet decided.
Only small traders -Small Press and back issue comic dealers. Nothing big and glitzy that allegedly costs tens of thousands of pounds to organise. Pure and simple tables and boxes and who ever orders and PAYS for a table first gets one and when they are all booked -tough.
This Summer I'll be scouting around and I want to make events start February, 2016. So that will be events in:
February
April
June
August
October
December
Once things come together I'll give more details.
